But those tasting eternity’s sweetness—the certainty of Christ’s return—reject cheap substitutes. They pray with boldness, share with urgency, and feast daily on God’s faithfulness. Colossians 3:2 sets the direction for born again believers: think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. The earth sure enough consumes the mind, and that is not accidental. The enemy of the soul wants the believer crowded with news, trouble, earthquakes, wars, rumors of wars, and every concern that flesh can grab onto. Christ has translated His people from darkness into light, so the church has to keep the heavenly kingdom and the holy King in the forefront of the mind.

Paul tells the Philippians to “always be full of joy in the Lord,” and then says it again: rejoice. Paul does not leave little carved out places for worry, not for children, jobs, aging parents, or even a sick dog. Prayer becomes the instead.
