Guided by Wisdom: Navigating Life with God's GPS

Summary

In today's gathering, we explored the profound wisdom found in Proverbs 4:20-27, focusing on the importance of allowing God's wisdom to guide our lives. We began by acknowledging the challenges of decision-making in our daily lives, likening it to navigating a road trip where we sometimes think we know better than the GPS. In the same way, we often rely on our own understanding rather than seeking God's guidance, which can lead us astray. The key is to let God's wisdom be our GPS, guiding us through life's journey with purpose and peace.

We delved into the concept of guarding our hearts, a principle often misunderstood. Guarding our hearts is not about building walls to keep others out but about protecting our spiritual core from influences that lead us away from God's path. Our hearts are the center of our emotions, desires, and will, and they shape the course of our lives. Therefore, we must be vigilant in what we allow to influence our hearts, ensuring that our decisions align with God's Word.

Solomon's wisdom teaches us to pay careful attention to God's instructions, allowing them to penetrate deeply into our hearts. This deep internalization brings life and healing, aligning us spiritually and physically. In a world that often rebels against instruction, we are reminded of the blessings that come from obedience to God's Word.

We also discussed the importance of our speech, as it reflects the state of our hearts. What we say under pressure reveals our true selves, and we must strive to let our words be filled with grace. By focusing on what lies ahead and not being distracted by the past or the world's temptations, we can stay on the path of righteousness.

Ultimately, we are encouraged to choose the path of wisdom, which leads to a life of abundance and alignment with God's purpose. This choice requires intentionality and a commitment to seeking God's guidance in all aspects of life. By doing so, we can experience the fullness of life that God intends for us.

Key Takeaways:

1. Divine Guidance Over Self-Reliance: Just as we sometimes ignore our GPS thinking we know better, we often rely on our own understanding instead of seeking God's guidance. Allowing God's wisdom to guide us ensures we stay on the right path, leading to a life of purpose and peace. [02:03]

2. Guarding the Heart: Guarding our hearts is about protecting our spiritual core from negative influences, not building walls to keep others out. Our hearts shape our lives, and we must be vigilant in ensuring our decisions align with God's Word. [11:45]

3. The Power of Words: Our speech reflects the state of our hearts. Under pressure, what we say reveals our true selves. We must strive to let our words be filled with grace, aligning our speech with God's teachings. [16:38]

4. Choosing the Path of Wisdom: We have the choice between the path of wisdom and the path of folly. Choosing wisdom leads to a life of abundance and alignment with God's purpose, requiring intentionality and commitment to seeking His guidance. [19:08]

5. Intentional Living: By focusing on what lies ahead and avoiding distractions, we can stay on the path of righteousness. This requires taking inventory of our influences and making decisions with God's wisdom at the center. [38:54]

Day 1: Divine Guidance as Our Compass
In our daily lives, we often face decisions that can feel overwhelming, much like navigating a complex road trip. It's easy to rely on our own understanding, thinking we know the best route. However, just as a GPS provides guidance to reach our destination, God's wisdom is meant to guide us through life's journey. When we choose to trust in divine guidance over self-reliance, we align ourselves with a path that leads to purpose and peace. This requires humility and a willingness to seek God's direction in all aspects of life, ensuring that we do not stray from the path He has set for us. [02:03]

"For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity." (Proverbs 2:6-7, ESV)

Reflection: What is one decision you are currently facing where you need to seek God's guidance instead of relying on your own understanding?

Day 2: Protecting the Spiritual Core
Guarding our hearts is a crucial aspect of spiritual health, yet it is often misunderstood. It is not about isolating ourselves or building walls to keep others out, but about being vigilant in protecting our spiritual core from negative influences. Our hearts are the center of our emotions, desires, and will, and they shape the course of our lives. By ensuring that our decisions align with God's Word, we protect our hearts from being led astray. This requires a conscious effort to evaluate what we allow to influence us and to remain steadfast in our commitment to God's path. [11:45]

"Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you." (Proverbs 4:23-24, ESV)

Reflection: What influences in your life might be leading your heart away from God's path, and how can you guard against them today?

Day 3: The Reflection of Our Words
Our speech is a powerful indicator of the state of our hearts. Under pressure, the words we choose reveal our true selves. It is essential to strive for our words to be filled with grace, reflecting the teachings of God. By doing so, we not only align our speech with God's wisdom but also become a source of encouragement and truth to those around us. This requires mindfulness and a commitment to letting God's Word shape our thoughts and conversations, especially in challenging situations. [16:38]

"Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person." (Colossians 4:6, ESV)

Reflection: Think of a recent conversation where your words did not reflect grace. How can you prepare your heart to respond differently in the future?

Day 4: Choosing the Path of Wisdom
Life presents us with a choice between the path of wisdom and the path of folly. Choosing the path of wisdom leads to a life of abundance and alignment with God's purpose. This choice requires intentionality and a commitment to seeking God's guidance in all aspects of life. By focusing on what lies ahead and avoiding distractions, we can stay on the path of righteousness. It is a daily decision to prioritize God's wisdom over worldly temptations, ensuring that our lives reflect His purpose and glory. [19:08]

"Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm." (Proverbs 13:20, ESV)

Reflection: What is one area of your life where you need to intentionally choose the path of wisdom today?

Day 5: Living with Intentionality
Intentional living involves taking inventory of our influences and making decisions with God's wisdom at the center. By focusing on what lies ahead and avoiding distractions, we can stay on the path of righteousness. This requires a conscious effort to evaluate our priorities and ensure that they align with God's purpose for our lives. By doing so, we can experience the fullness of life that God intends for us, living each day with purpose and direction. [38:54]

"Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil." (Ephesians 5:15-16, ESV)

Reflection: What is one distraction in your life that you need to eliminate to live more intentionally according to God's wisdom?

Quotes

"God has a way to help us if we just let him. So even when we think we know best, sometimes we ignore God's direction and we'll find ourselves lost, frustrated, far from our destination and where we're supposed to be. Amen. So today we're going to talk about those divine decisions and how to let God help us. Let God, God's wisdom, be the GPS that guides your path." [00:02:32]

"So when we tune into God's guidance, we'll find that it leads us on a path of wisdom, a path of purpose, a path of peace, a path of promise. Amen. We're going to look at Proverbs 4, 20 through 27, and that's going to lay out our roadmap for navigation. Navigating life's journey using God's wisdom." [00:03:37]

"Throughout the book, and he's already, throughout Proverbs, he's already mentioned it and kind of had in Proverbs, four you'll go back and look at the first section he's pretty much already given him this is a repetition he's already said listen up listen up listen up and he's still saying listen up again because it's that important some of the translations say incline your ear bend your ear that means lean in to what I have to say it's that important it's that important listen carefully tune in don't just be going and then you hear the want want want like we talked about last week right listen pay attention but careful careful attention and incline your ear bend in lean in to what I'm about to tell you amen so then we'll go into verse 21 don't lose sight of them let them penetrate deep into your heart whatever is on your horizon whatever you're honing in on that is what you're gonna be focusing on it says let them penetrate don't just listen and move on no let them penetrate deep into your heart it's not a surface thing this is so critical he says listen up and let it sink in let it go all the way into the deep recesses of your heart hallelujah amen we'll move into 22 and it says for they so he's telling us why now for they bring life to those who find them hallelujah they bring life to those who find them and healing to the whole body to their whole body how many of us know we need healing today hallelujah we want a whole whole healthy and whole body it doesn't mean that we're not gonna ever not be physically ill that's not what that means we're not gonna ever be physically ill that's not what that means but it means that we'll be aligned spiritually that there'll be some just healing throughout mind body soul spirit everything that brings life it's gonna it's gonna be able to be seen if you follow these words if you listen and take heed to my instruction the problem is or the challenge I guess you could say is that we live in a very rebellious very rebellious time instruction is something that people don't want to follow we don't want to be told what to do nobody wants to be told what to do so there's such a rebellious spirit in the earth today it's attacking specifically even in the the church it's attacking the church because we all get puffed up and we all feel we know best And we don't want to follow any instruction. I don't need any instruction. I can Google it. I can go on to chat GPT. I can do my own thing. I can figure it out. I don't need somebody telling me what to do. We don't want to submit to the authority. We don't want to submit and follow. We feel like it's too stringent to follow some guidelines and some rules and be obedient." [00:08:14]

"There's blessings for being obedient. How many of us know that? Hallelujah. There's blessings for being obedient. It's life. It's medicine. It's healing to our whole body. Hallelujah." [00:11:45]

"So we'll go into 23, which is really going to be the crux of our message. And we'll dive deeper on this one. But for now, it says, guard your heart above all else. Guard your heart above all else. For it determines the course of your life. Guard your heart. So now we know why. We need to guard it, because it determines everything." [00:11:57]

"The same is true when it comes to our spiritual heart. Because you see, the heart, the heart is the center. It's the foundation of everything we do. It's our emotions. It's our feelings. It's our will. It's our desires. It's everything that makes us who we are. It's everything that makes you you and unique. That's your heart. So where do we get that from? How does that happen? How do we know what's in there?" [00:12:52]

"What you say is a direct correlation from what's in your heart. It reveals what's stored up in your heart. So think of when maybe when you're. Most of us have a pretty decent filter. So we know what we're supposed to say and who we can say things to and who we can't say things to. So we're pretty good about filtering things." [00:14:45]

"What happens when you're under pressure? What happens when there's an urgent situation that you've never dealt with? Or things don't go your way. Or they don't go according to your plan. Or you stub your toe. What happens, what really comes out of your mouth? Amen?" [00:15:30]

"Look straight ahead and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Usually you need to look to see where you're going. Take your eye off and you're likely to stumble. You're likely to fall. You're likely to get off course. You're likely to veer. You're likely to swerve a little bit. Some of the translations say don't look to the left. Don't look to the right. Look straight ahead. And even says keep your eyelids focused. So if your eyelids are not even blinking, your gaze is fixed. Straight ahead." [00:17:12]

"You can choose the path of wisdom. Which is righteousness. Godliness. Christlikeness. Or you can choose the way of folly. Ignorance. Folly. You get to decide. It's also destruction. You get to decide. Just as we choose." [00:18:28]

"Mark out a straight path. For your feet. Stay safe on the safe path. And we talked about it. Which path are you going to go. You're at a fork in the road. Which path are you going to choose. And the way to figure that out. Is are your decisions lining up. With scripture. Or. Are they lining up. With God's word. Are they lining up. Are you feeling that leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit. In a certain decision. Ask. And he says. In James 1 .5. Ask for wisdom. And I will give it to you. I will give it to you generously. And without reproach." [00:20:17]

" Alright. Don't get sidetracked. Don't get sidetracked. Keep your feet from following evil. There's so many distractions. We've talked about this so much. You know. We've even talked about this at our. On Thursday. We had our ministry team gathering. A round table. Life comes in. You get sidetracked. You get distracted." [00:21:54]
