I want you to know that you are seen and you are loved and you are never alone in this journey. Today I want to talk about a verse that has shaped me in more ways than I can count. It is Proverbs 4 23 and it says above all else guard your heart for everything you do from it. That's a powerful statement. Everything we do, our words, our actions, our responses, all come from the condition of our heart. And let me tell you, life has a way of impacting our heart. [00:01:21]

Maybe you have given your heart to ministry and have felt the sting of disappointment. I get it. I have been there. The impact of life on our hearts can be brutal. Life doesn't happen in a vacuum. Our hearts are shaped by our experiences. Let me be real with you. Ministry has stretched my heart in ways I never imagined. I've walked with people through their darkest moment and and sometimes I felt like I was carrying their burdens along with my own. [00:02:23]

If we're not careful, the weight of life can harden our hearts. Bitterness and disappointment and unforgiveness start to settle in. That's why Solomon warns us, above all else, you must guard your heart. It is not an option know it is a necessity. How do we keep our hearts soft when life tries to make them hard? Here are a few practical tools that have helped me. Number one, stay rooted in God's Word. [00:03:17]

Spend time daily in scripture, not just to check a box, but to let it shape your heart. Psalm 119, 11 says, "'I have hidden your word in my heart, "'that I might not sin against you.'" Number two, process your heart. your pain with God. Don't bury your hurt. Take it to God. David was called a man after God's own heart and yet if you read the Psalms he was brutally honest with God. He poured out his frustrations, his fears, his disappointments. We need to do the same. Healing begins when we bring our brokenness to the healer. [00:03:50]

Next point is surround yourself with a healthy community. Isolation is dangerous. When we're hurt, our instinct is often to pull away. But Proverbs 27 17 says, As iron sharpens iron, so one person's shape sharpens another. You need people who will speak life into you. who will pray for you, and who will remind you of God's goodness when you forget. Number four, practice forgiveness. [00:04:30]

This one isn't easy but it is necessary. Holding on to unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to suffer. Jesus calls us to forgive not because people deserve it, but because our hearts need it. Forgiveness doesn't mean excusing what happened. It means releasing it to God and choosing freedom over bitterness. And number five, guard what you allow into your heart. [00:05:23]

What we consume affects our hearts. The conversation we engage in, the means the media we watch, the thoughts we dwell on. All of it matters. Philippians 4 .8 says, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things. I want to keep our hearts healthy and we have to be mindful of what we let in. [00:06:14]

I don't know what you're walking through right now, but I do know that you are not alone. Your heart matters to God. He sees every wound, every disappointment, every joy and He wants you to live with a heart that is healthy and whole, not weighed down by the pains of life. I encourage you to take some time today and to ask yourself, how is my heart? What have I allowed in that shouldn't be there? What do I need to surrender to God? [00:07:00]

Let's commit to guarding our hearts because because everything we do flows from them. And when our hearts are healthy, we can love better and lead better and live with the peace that only God can give. Thank you so much for joining me today.
