Guarding Against the Allure of Sexual Sin
Summary
In today's gathering, we delved into the profound wisdom found in Proverbs, specifically focusing on chapters 5 through 7, where Solomon addresses the dangers of sexual immorality. The essence of our discussion was not to convince anyone of the wrongness of sexual sin, as we assume agreement with God's perspective on this matter. Instead, we explored how to use wisdom to guard ourselves against the seductive nature of sexual sin, which is often disguised as something harmless or even appealing.
Solomon's warnings to his son about the adulterous, strange, and foreign woman serve as a metaphor for all forms of sexual sin, including pornography, fornication, and even the subtle influences of media. These personifications of sin are not just about the physical act but also about the seductive allure that can lead us away from our devotion to God. The key is to recognize that sexual sin is not just a personal failing but a spiritual danger that can lead to destruction.
We discussed the importance of humility and the need to seek wisdom from others, acknowledging that we don't have all the answers. Solomon himself, despite his wisdom, fell into the trap of thinking he was smarter than God, leading to his spiritual downfall. This serves as a cautionary tale for us to heed the wisdom of those who have gone before us and to avoid the arrogance of thinking we can handle temptation on our own.
Moreover, we examined how media and societal norms often glamorize sexual sin, making it seem acceptable or even desirable. This distortion can create dissatisfaction with our current relationships or situations, leading us to seek fulfillment in places that ultimately bring harm. The antidote to this is finding our satisfaction in Christ, who promises to fulfill our deepest needs and desires.
In conclusion, we are called to be vigilant, to set boundaries, and to seek accountability in our walk with God. By doing so, we can honor Him with our bodies and live in the freedom and joy that comes from obedience to His wisdom.

Day 1: Humility as the Path to Wisdom
To walk in wisdom, one must embrace humility, recognizing the need for guidance and help from others. Solomon's story serves as a powerful reminder of the dangers of arrogance. Despite his great wisdom, he fell into the trap of believing he knew better than God, leading to his spiritual downfall. This teaches us the importance of seeking wisdom from those who have experienced the consequences of ignoring it. By acknowledging our limitations and seeking counsel, we can avoid the pitfalls of pride and walk in the path of wisdom. [45:09]
"For by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory." (Proverbs 24:6, ESV)
Reflection: Who in your life can you seek out for wise counsel today, and how can you humbly approach them for guidance?
Day 2: Recognizing the Deceptive Nature of Sin
Sexual sin often disguises itself as something good or harmless, but it is inherently destructive. Solomon warns that what appears sweet can turn bitter, and it is crucial to use wisdom to discern the true nature of what we encounter. This deception can lead us away from our devotion to God, making it essential to remain vigilant and discerning. By understanding the seductive allure of sin, we can better guard our hearts and minds against its destructive power. [52:35]
"For the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil, but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword." (Proverbs 5:3-4, ESV)
Reflection: What is one area in your life where you might be deceived by something that seems harmless? How can you seek God's wisdom to see it clearly?
Day 3: Guarding Against Media's Influence
Media often glamorizes sexual sin, making it seem normal or even desirable. This distortion can create dissatisfaction with our current relationships, leading us to seek fulfillment in harmful ways. It is vital to guard our hearts and minds against these influences, recognizing the subtle ways they can shape our perceptions and desires. By being aware of media's impact, we can choose to focus on what is true and honorable, aligning our lives with God's wisdom. [01:15:28]
"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." (Philippians 4:8, ESV)
Reflection: What specific media influences in your life might be distorting your view of relationships? How can you take steps to limit these influences today?
Day 4: Finding True Satisfaction in Christ
True satisfaction comes from a relationship with Christ, not from fulfilling our desires through sin. When we find our fulfillment in Him, we are less likely to be swayed by the seductive allure of sin. Christ promises to fulfill our deepest needs and desires, offering a joy and peace that surpasses all understanding. By focusing on our relationship with Him, we can experience true contentment and freedom from the chains of sin. [01:23:07]
"Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." (Psalm 37:4, ESV)
Reflection: In what ways can you deepen your relationship with Christ today to find true satisfaction in Him?
Day 5: The Importance of Accountability and Boundaries
We are not exempt from temptation, and therefore, we must set boundaries and seek accountability to protect ourselves from falling into sin. This involves being proactive in our spiritual walk and surrounding ourselves with wise counsel. By establishing clear boundaries and seeking accountability, we can honor God with our bodies and live in the freedom and joy that comes from obedience to His wisdom. [01:06:10]
"Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working." (James 5:16, ESV)

Quotes
But as we've been talking about in this series, in order to acquire wisdom, in order to walk in wisdom, we also must be people who are humble enough to allow other individuals to speak into our lives. We have to be humble enough to acknowledge that we need help and that we don't have all of the answers by ourselves. Now we've been having fun for four chapters and now we enter this next section of chapters five, six, and seven, where if you are a visitor, just know I don't pick on any individual sin. [00:37:59] (44 seconds)
So obviously, if he's writing to his son, he's going to warn his son of the adulterous, strange, and foreign woman. But the flip side is true, right? Ladies need to be warned of the adulterous, strange, and foreign man as well, right? So don't, don't, so come back. I know some of y'all was in your head like, did I come to the church? He's about to just talk about women all day. No, that's not what we're doing. Why? Because the adulterous and the strange and the foreign women are all just personifications of sexual sin that is actively trying to seduce people to travel her path. [00:42:36] (37 seconds)
But what I do hope that I will be able to allow you guys to see is that we must guard and protect ourselves from this seductuous woman, man, sin. Why? Because sexual sin is dangerous, and it is seductive. Now, here's what I want to do. I want to give a little bit of charity here. Here's my charity. Everybody who falls to sexual sin ain't trying to just intentionally and habitually be out here sinning. That's my charity. That's my assumption. That's what we're going to, that's the premise in which we're going to base this off of. [00:44:17] (35 seconds)
And what I know is that I've experienced wisdom being given to individuals who scoffed at it. Wisdom being given to individuals who thought that it ain't that deep. You just tripping. You just the old head. You just trying to take away my fun. You did it. Why you hating on me? Let me, you got yours out. Let me get, I've witnessed it all. I've seen it all. But you know what else I've witnessed in 12 years of leadership? Everybody who felt that way, that was humble enough to come back and admit, I've also had to walk with every single one of them back to redemption. [00:45:11] (34 seconds)
Because you think that you're being attacked by a demon at night and that's just the fruit of the subconscious mind because all day long you've been listening to music that imprept and primed you to go to sleep alone to go to sleep alone. Ain't a demon. That's just your thoughts catching up to you. You ignore the wisdom that say you should probably put down the Zane novels. 50 shades of gray. Her. Y'all know what I'm talking about. It seems innocent but it's seducing your mind. [00:46:12] (47 seconds)
And Solomon experienced spiritual destruction because of his choice. And so I love that when he opens up this text, he opens up this text to his son in Proverbs 5 and 1. He says, My son, pay attention to my wisdom. Incline your ears to my understanding. And I love this because what the Bible is teaching us, because a lot of times we think that if it don't just come from the chicken or your own thoughts or anything like that, if you're a visitor, the chicken is the lies that you say is the Holy Spirit. [00:52:35] (31 seconds)
You hear me say this often. It is your life to live. But you also don't have to make the same mistakes that other people made. You don't have to travel. You don't have to experience everything for yourself. That's called arrogance. That's called foolishness. And sadly, many people fall into destruction because they think that they are stronger than the person who traveled the road and failed. See, one thing that Solomon is an expert on is how destructive sexual sin is, especially spiritual destruction. [00:53:49] (32 seconds)
And God says, don't do this not for any other reason than they will turn your hearts away from me. But like Solomon, we read that and think we smarter than God. And so Solomon's like, well, I know that's what it's saying. But he jumped on in there anyway, because he thought he was smart. See, Solomon said, well, let me help out the nation. Because if I take the princesses for my wives, then I create peace treaties between the nations. I won't be attacked because the king's daughters are here. [00:56:31] (33 seconds)
And one of the things and why you need wisdom in these areas is because wisdom will let you know that just because you teeter-totter with something you had no business teeter-tottering with and didn't fall don't mean you good. We were talking to my discipleship group about this, right? We love the passage, Galatians 6, 7 and 9. Do not be deceived. God is not mocked. For whatever a person sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will what? Reap destruction from the flesh. [01:00:05] (26 seconds)
We think because we don't reap the immediate consequences of our sin that we got away with it. But the Bible says the harvest is guaranteed to come. If you sow the seed, the harvest will come. And we get so deceived by thinking we got away with something. But you never get away with sin. You thought because y'all ain't touched the first time you spent the night you good. Nah, that's just a false strength that's going to disarm you and keep you sowing more seeds. [01:01:50] (35 seconds)
