Even when we are uncertain or make mistakes, Jesus lovingly provides for us, preparing what we need before we realize it ourselves. He demonstrates His care not only by meeting our physical needs, but also by inviting us into deeper relationship and trust, showing that His provision is not dependent on our perfection but on His grace and love. When the disciples returned from a fruitless night of fishing, Jesus already had fish and bread waiting for them, reminding us that God’s blessings are often prepared in advance, and our role is to trust and follow Him. [31:30]
John 21:9-13 (ESV)
When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish.
Reflection: Where in your life are you anxiously striving for something, not realizing that Jesus may already have the answer prepared for you? How can you trust Him with that need today?
Jesus asks Peter three times, “Do you love me?” and each time connects Peter’s love for Him with the call to feed and care for His sheep. Our service to others, whether as pastors, leaders, parents, or friends, must be rooted in genuine love for Christ, not for recognition, money, or any other motive. When we love Jesus deeply, we are moved to care for those He loves, and our actions become an extension of His compassion and grace in the world. [36:45]
John 21:15-17 (ESV)
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.”
Reflection: Who is someone in your life that God is calling you to “feed” or care for out of love for Jesus? What is one practical way you can show Christ’s love to them this week?
The disciples’ night of empty nets changed when they listened to Jesus’ direction, casting their nets on the right side as He instructed. True blessing and fruitfulness come not from our own plans or striving, but from surrendering to God’s guidance and obeying His word, even when it challenges our expectations or routines. When we put Jesus first and follow His lead, He brings abundance and victory into our lives. [29:45]
John 21:3-6 (ESV)
Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish.
Reflection: Is there an area where you’ve been relying on your own strength or wisdom instead of seeking Jesus’ direction? What would it look like to surrender that area to Him and obey His leading today?
No matter our age or experience, we are always called to be learners, continually growing in faith, wisdom, and love. Leaders are learners, and learners lead; we never reach a point where we know it all. God desires that we remain humble, teachable, and open to His ongoing work in our lives, so that we can be the best version of ourselves in whatever role or season He places us. [00:55]
Proverbs 1:5 (ESV)
Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance.
Reflection: What is one new thing you sense God wants to teach you in this season? How can you intentionally pursue growth in that area this week?
Looking back over the years, we see that God keeps His promises and provides for His people, even through challenges, changes, and losses. He is in the blessing business, working all things for our good and His glory, and inviting us to trust Him with our future as we remember His faithfulness in the past. No matter what we face, we can rest in the assurance that God is developing us, caring for us, and preparing blessings ahead. [34:45]
Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV)
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Reflection: Take a moment to remember a specific time when God provided for you or your family. How does recalling His faithfulness encourage you to trust Him with your current needs and future hopes?
Today’s focus is on the call to continual growth, the faithfulness of God, and the centrality of love in all we do for Christ. No matter our age or experience, there is always more to learn and ways to grow. Leaders are lifelong learners, and every believer is called to keep learning, keep serving, and keep loving. Even when things don’t go as planned, or when we feel weary, God’s care and provision remain steadfast. He prepares what we need before we even know to ask, and He calls us to trust Him fully, to put Him first, and to let Him work out the details of our lives.
The story of Peter in John 21 reminds us that even after failure or uncertainty, Jesus meets us with grace and provision. Peter, unsure of what to do, returns to fishing, but Jesus appears, provides for him, and then calls him back to his true purpose: “Feed my sheep.” This is a call not just for pastors, but for all who love Jesus—to care for others, to serve, and to let love for Christ be the motive behind all our actions. Our service is not about recognition, money, or numbers, but about loving Jesus and following His lead.
God’s blessings are not limited by our circumstances. He is always working, even when we don’t see it. The testimony of years of ministry, the growth of children, and the faithfulness of saints who have gone before us all point to a God who keeps His promises. We are reminded to deny ourselves, to seek God first, and to trust that He will provide everything we need. Our job is to feed, to serve, to love, and to follow—God will take care of the rest.
John 21:1-19 (ESV) — After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way. Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea. The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off.
This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.” (This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, “Follow me.”
When you belong to the Lord, God takes care of you. He takes care of you, but oh, how he wants to take so much better care of you. And it comes about by you giving yourself all the way over to the Lord. [00:30:49] (16 seconds) #SurrenderToReceiveBetter
In order for these children to get there, they deny themselves. And we have to deny ourselves, and we're going to have the fullness of joy that the Lord wants for us to have. The Bible says, seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. [00:31:37] (19 seconds) #SelfDenialLeadsToJoy
Isn't it amazing that God gives us before we have to get forgiveness? He doesn't wait until we're forgiven to do something for us? And maybe you feel that God's not going to do it for you, but God is doing it for you all the time. Even when we're not treating him the way we should treat him, he still takes care of us. [00:39:36] (17 seconds) #GodActsBeforeForgiveness
He wakes us up in the morning. He closes us in our right mind. We're able to move about. And we know we need a good whooping from the Lord, but the Lord still takes care of us. And won't he do it? He watches over us, and he does it. [00:39:53] (15 seconds) #GodWatchesAndProvides
If you feed the lambs and feed God's sheep, God will take care of you. All we are ever is lambs and sheep. Help me quick, somebody. A sheep never turned into a shepherd. You never saw a sheep turn into a shepherd. That lamb, that lamb, that lamb grows to be a sheep. And all of you take care of that sheep, that sheep will produce and bring wool year after year and year after year. [00:45:28] (24 seconds) #SheepProduceWool
We never get grown. We always belong to the Lord, and we belong to him. Because one Friday on a hill called Calvary, he let them put nails in his hand. He let them ribbing his feet. He died on the cross. They buried him. But early Sunday morning, he got up with all power in his hand, and he showed to him again the third time. Peter, do you love me? I'm getting ready to go. I'm going back. I'm going back. But my church must march on, and through many dangers, toils and snails, we've already come, because Jesus is in the blessing business. [00:46:53] (34 seconds) #ForeverBelongToJesus
Let's trust the Lord. Now we want to remember our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I know it was the blood. I know it was the blood. I know it was the blood for me.One day when I was lost, he died up on the cross. I know it was the blood for me. [01:02:10] (27 seconds) #TrustInTheBlood
