Groundwork for the Work: Keep Your Heart's Ground

The ground that must be kept is the heart. The work is already plain, but neglected work stays neglected because people get lazy with what God already put in the Book. God says His people can be prosperous, but agreement has to be real. Amos says two cannot walk together except they agree, so agreement with God cannot just be a yes from the mouth while the heart keeps resisting His word.

The heart is the ground, and the harvest shows what has been growing there. The question is plain: what is coming up? What is there for the people who are coming in scared, needing something real from God? Ground that is not worked will not suddenly bring forth good fruit. Fruit without water, oil, nutrients, and care becomes rotten. Rotten fruit sitting next to other fruit can spread its spoilage, and people can end up feeding off one another's slackness instead of stirring one another toward life.

God deserves all the glory and all the honor, because life was created to worship Him, praise Him, and lift Him up. Christ being lifted draws people, but lazy worship keeps hands down, mouths quiet, and hearts centered on feelings instead of God's worth. Second Timothy 2:15 calls each person to study and show that person approved unto God, not approved unto a neighbor. The fruit will show in the walk, the talk, and the way a person lives.

The workman who is not ashamed has to keep working the ground. Fellowship, Sunday school, assembling together, and getting in the Word are not little optional things when a person is struggling to study alone. The Word has to become application, not just information that sounds good when repeated to somebody else.

Love is the first instruction for this ground. First Corinthians 13 helps expose what love is not, because emotions can pretend to be love. Ephesians 6 supplies armor because love gets hard, Philippians guards the thinking, and Romans 12:1 calls the whole life a holy and acceptable sacrifice. The ground that is kept produces a different spirit in God's house, less bitterness toward brothers and sisters, and more readiness to serve God with a clean heart.
