61s
“If we say Jesus feeds the hungry, then feeding hungry people is part of our confession. If we say Jesus cares for the sick, then caring for people who need healing, physical, emotional, spiritual healing is part of our confession. We say Jesus welcomes those whom religion has rejected, then making room for them is part of our confession These aren't side projects attached to the real work of church. They are the real work of church. They're part of the way we answer Jesus' question, who do you say that I am? This is who we say Jesus is.”
53s
“Look at how we spend our time. Look at where we invest our resources, whom we welcome, whose pain we notice, and the needs to which we respond. Look at what we're willing to change because people matter more than our preferences. Let that sit for a moment. that sit with you. Let it bother you for a moment. People matter more. People matter more than our preferences. That's a confession too.”
44s
“What kind of church do we need to become for this community, this city, and this moment? Who needs us now? Who's looking for a place to belong? Who has decided that church has nothing to offer them? Who has been hurt by Christianity and needs to see another expression of it that we can offer because of who we are, where we have been, and where God is calling us to go. Who's hungry? Who's lonely? Who needs community? Who needs grace? And what are we willing to do about it?”
