“The things God has given you, he's given them to you, not because you deserved them. And so if you let me give you something to write down in your notes there. I didn't put it in your notes, but let me give you a couple things to write down about the aptitude. One is that gifts are given for the purpose of being used. Can I say it this way? Jesus doesn't give knickknacks. know what a knickknack is. Right? You know, it's a little thing you put in a little shelf that looks cute. You know, some of you go to different places and you pick up a knickknack at each one of those where you've been. Listen, those are fine, but Jesus doesn't give knickknacks. He gives gifts for the purpose of using them. He doesn't give useless gifts. He gives aptitudes so that we will use them.”

“Second thing I'll have you write down underneath there is that the gift is given to complete the tasks of the church. The church is the primary tool of God in the world to bring the gospel. And so you're like, well, you know, I just do this. This is just for me. Well, okay. But if it's not part of what a church is doing, I think you're missing the point. Because the church is the tool of God to take the gospel to the world. The third and the last one in that section is that the gift is given to glorify God. The gift is given to glorify God. So it it will be, and you could write this down underneath that is that spiritual gifts are tools to build with. By the way, they're not toys to play with, and they're also not weapons to use against each other.”

“These are the habitudes, the habits of a beautiful orchestra. We already referenced first Corinthians 12 where Paul talks about spiritual gifts. And interestingly, you jump over to first Corinthians 14 and part Paul talks about the misuse of gifts. And right in the middle between twelve and fourteen, let me show you a better way, Paul says, is that precious explanation of what love does. Love is a tool that tunes the use of the gifts.”
