Acts 2:42 gives the church a picture of devotion to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer. The apostles’ teaching matters because every life is being formed by who or what is teaching it. Information is everywhere, from podcasts and influencers to YouTube and endless scrolling, but more information has not made people wiser or more loving. What people consume most will shape them most.
William Tyndale saw the power of Scripture clearly enough to die so ordinary people could read the Bible in their own language. The Bible has been burned, confiscated, outlawed, and twisted throughout history because it is dangerous in the hands of ordinary people. The gospel does not stay safely on a page. The gospel gets into hearts, changes lives, and disrupts families, cultures, work, parenting, love, and everything else.
Paul’s warning in Colossians confronts hollow and deceptive philosophy that depends on human tradition rather than Christ. Confirmation bias feeds people what they already want to believe, including sinfulness and cultural preferences. Scripture does something different. Scripture confronts biases, exposes brokenness, and transforms what needs to change. When the essence of the gospel gets stripped away to fit personal preferences, it loses its power.
Peter’s first gospel proclamation in Acts 2 holds four nonnegotiables. The incarnation means Jesus came to be with people. Jesus became flesh and blood, entered temptation, pain, loneliness, and weakness, and understands the deepest places of human life. The crucifixion means Jesus died to forgive people. At the cross, guilt and shame are not partially removed. Jesus bore the penalty for all sin, including sins from the past and sins still to come.
The resurrection means Jesus rose to restore people. Forgiveness alone is not the whole story. The risen Christ gives a new heart, a renewed mind, and a new creation reality through the same power that raised Him from the dead. The exaltation means Jesus ascended to empower people through the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is not only for wild, miraculous moments. The Spirit empowers ordinary faithfulness in parenting, marriage, calling, weakness, and the impossible things God asks people to do.
The gospel is all about Jesus: He came to be with people, died to forgive them, rose to restore them, and ascended to empower them. Christ cuts to the heart like a surgeon who wounds in order to heal. God’s Word becomes a fire shut up in human bones when the gospel takes root in the heart.

Key Takeaways
- 1. Your life is being formed [35:44] Every person is being shaped by something, whether that formation is recognized or not. Endless information can form desires, fears, and assumptions without producing wisdom or love. Scripture calls people to ask not merely what they know, but what is teaching their hearts. Christ must become the center of formation rather than another voice in the noise. [35:44]
- 2. The Bible confronts confirmation bias [43:27] Confirmation bias looks for voices that bless what people already want to believe. God’s Word does not simply reinforce preferences, excuse sin, or make people feel comfortable. Scripture cuts through self-deception because it loves people enough to change them. The truth can wound pride while healing the heart. [43:27]
- 3. Jesus came to be with us [49:04] The incarnation means that God did not remain distant from human pain. Jesus entered flesh and blood life, including temptation, weakness, loneliness, and suffering. Christ understands the places that feel unseen and desperate because He came near. His presence is not seasonal Christmas language but daily reality. [49:04]
- 4. The cross gives full forgiveness [53:14] Jesus did not die for half of a person’s sin or offer forgiveness in small portions. The cross deals with guilt and shame completely when repentance brings a person before Christ. Old failures do not have greater authority than Christ’s sacrifice. Freedom begins where people stop carrying what Jesus has already borne. [53:14]
- 5. The risen Christ restores and empowers [55:16] The resurrection gives more than a canceled debt. Christ creates new hearts and supplies power for a changed life through the Holy Spirit. The Spirit meets people in ordinary callings, difficult relationships, and assignments that feel beyond their strength. God often calls people into what they cannot do alone so His power becomes clear.
