God’s mission begins with God’s glory, God’s kingdom, and God reconciling the world to himself through Jesus Christ. The Great Commission gives every apprentice of Jesus an eternity impacting mandate: make disciples who make disciples who make disciples, across the street and around the world. This calling requires lives rearranged around God’s mission, not God’s mission squeezed into whatever time is left.
Evangelism means the church growing where it already is by helping people believe in Jesus. Missions means the church going where it is not by helping people know there is a Jesus. The unfinished task remains huge because unreached people groups often have no Bible in their language, no believer nearby, and no church family to show them Christ. The map full of red dots can feel overwhelming, but God has said, “Go get those people.”
The Word stands at the center of the task because people must hear the good news before they can believe and call on the Lord. The gospel must be lived, but it also must be spoken. Prayer empowers the Word, producing the kind of boldness, longing, desperation, and expectation seen in the early church and in Paul’s burden for the lost. The Holy Spirit makes both Word and prayer effective, teaching, guiding, reminding, and giving power for witness.
The church is God’s chosen instrument in the missio Dei, the mission of God. Every saved apprentice of Jesus has a role, not mainly so people escape hell, but so God gets all honor and glory forever. Following Jesus comes first, and then Jesus makes his people fishers of people. The church’s outreach strategy is not merely a program. It is God’s people living intentionally among the people God has placed around them.
BLESS gives a simple way to live that out: begin with prayer, listen, eat, serve, and share. Prayer names people before God. Listening asks, “What happened next?” “What did you feel?” and “What was the hardest part?” Eating turns ordinary meals, coffee, and hospitality into missional opportunities. Serving follows the example of Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve. Sharing tells an honest story of who someone used to be, how God changed them, and how that personal story fits into the big God story of creation, fall, redemption, and new creation.
Acts 1:8 calls believers to identify their Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and ends of the earth. Jerusalem is where life already happens: where people live, work, learn, play, and shop. The harvest is plentiful, and the church must keep asking the Lord of the harvest to send workers.

Key Takeaways
- 1. The gospel must be spoken aloud [35:29] The gospel cannot be reduced to being a decent person or living a respectable life. Good works matter, but they cannot tell anyone who Jesus is, why he came, or how they can call on him. God has chosen to bring saving faith through the hearing of his Word. [35:29]
- 2. Prayer gives boldness for the mission [43:20] Prayer is not the warm up before the real work begins. Prayer is where God shakes settled hearts, fills his people with the Spirit, and gives courage to speak when silence feels safer. Persistent prayer for the lost exposes whether Christ’s people actually carry God’s burden for those far from him. [43:20]
- 3. Following Jesus makes fishers of people [53:44] Jesus does not first command people to become impressive evangelists. Jesus calls people to follow him, be with him, and let him do the making. Fruitful witness grows out of a life being formed by Christ, not out of pressure to perform. [53:44]
- 4. Bless people before trying to impress them [01:01:11] Listening keeps the focus on the actual person in front of someone, rather than on a quick transition into a religious speech. Careful questions reveal where pain, fear, and longing are already present. Love becomes concrete when people are heard well enough to show how they need to be loved. [61:11]
- 5. Your story belongs in God’s story [01:05:49] A changed life is not a sales pitch, and it should never make the believer the hero. Personal testimony points beyond itself to the God who creates, redeems, restores, and will make all things new. Honest stories of grace can open a door for the bigger story of Jesus.
