The resurrection isn’t a myth but a historical event witnessed by hundreds. Paul lists Peter, the Twelve, over 500 believers, James, and himself as firsthand witnesses of the risen Christ. These accounts weren’t isolated—they were public, verifiable, and transformative. The Corinthians, surrounded by Greek skepticism, needed this reminder: faith rests on fact, not philosophy. When we share the gospel, we echo voices from history who staked their lives on what they saw. [23:42]

Our culture often reduces faith to self-help, but the gospel demands a response: reject it as myth or let it rewrite your story. The same choice confronts us today. [17:32]

Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked. But others said, “We will hear you again about this.” (Acts 17:32, ESV)

Day 5: Living as Dead People Walking in Resurrection Light

The gospel changes everything—not just beliefs, but speech, generosity, and love. Paul’s past (persecuting the church) was eclipsed by grace: “I am what I am.” Resurrection life isn’t about perfection but transformation. When we grasp what Christ’s victory secures, we stop clinging to temporary comforts and start living as “dead people” with eternal purpose. [38:35]

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17, ESV)

Paul refuses to let that pagan way of thinking seep back into the church. The bodily resurrection matters because Jesus did not rise as an idea. Jesus rose alive, seen by Peter, the apostles, James, Paul, and more than 500 people at one time. The gospel does not ask for a blind leap. The resurrection stands on historical ground.

Paul then presses the church with the weight of the issue. If Christ has not been raised, faith is futile, preaching is worthless, sin still wins, the dead are lost, and followers of Jesus are the most pitiful people on the planet. But Paul does not stop there. “But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead.” That fact becomes the guarantee and down payment of a future resurrection for those who belong to Christ.

The resurrection also demands a different life. Paul says, “I die every day,” because the risen Jesus changes the way life gets lived right now. The hope of resurrection makes costly obedience possible. The gospel changes friends, family, sin, priorities, generosity, speech, love, and surrender. If the resurrection is real, then life cannot stay the same.

And here's the good news. Paul Paul says this. He says, but in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead.
