The same door that shuts out wolves opens to eternal mornings where death’s valley ends in overflowing cups. Dwellers of the fold trade temporary safety for everlasting adventure, following the voice that says, “I know my own.”

Sermon Summary

The Lamb of God comes looking for sinners, just like Mary in the song. His fleece is white as snow, and everywhere lost sheep have gone, this Lamb has been looking for them. John 10 brings that picture into sharp focus with Jesus saying, “Truly, truly,” which means every ear ought to listen up because eternal things are on the line.

Jesus names himself “the door of the sheep.” The sheepfold picture is simple and beautiful. The shepherd lies down across the opening, and the sheep rest because the entrance is guarded. Jesus is not just pointing toward safety. Jesus is the safety. Jesus is the way in, the protector at the door, and the one who leads the sheep back out into green pasture.

The thieves and robbers are the scribes and Pharisees who cared more about power, praise, and tradition than the works of God. John 9 shows their blindness when a man born blind gets healed, and they would rather defend Sabbath rules than rejoice that a man can see. Their works religion steals people away from God, turns the Bible into a self help book, and makes human effort the center instead of Christ.

The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. False teachers still do that today, inside and outside the church, through bad theology, smooth platforms, itching ear religion, and even Bible verses twisted into lies. Paul calls this falling away “apostasy,” a standing away from the faith, and warns that deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons will come. Galatians 1 makes the line clear. Even an angel with another gospel is not to be trusted.

The Bereans show the faithful way forward. Acts 17 says they examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. First John says to test the spirits. The sheep must know the voice of the shepherd, and that voice comes through the holy Word of God.

John 10:11 brings the good news home. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. Jesus becomes the Lamb of God at Calvary, dies for sinners, and says, “It is finished.” Through this door comes salvation, forgiveness, and abundant life that starts now, not merely after death. It's it comes from the Greek word apostasia, meaning to stand away from or to abandon one's faith. And most of the time, we think of apostasy as a person leaving the faith. Well, we'll talk about that in a minute. But a lost person is a person who never had faith in Jesus. They're lost. But an apostate person is someone who had faith in Jesus, no longer believes in them. And it's not only about individuals, it's about whole denominations. And we see this in Thessalonica where the the whole church, they were breaking down their morals and their beliefs. And we see that in churches today that split because we have people in the church that say, no, we can't go that way.”

There are seminary professors that teach that God's word is not God's word. It only contains God's word. There's, you know, God's words in that book, but it's not God's word. they'll even say things that, you know, that this book has scientific errors, really, and that it has historical errors, and that maybe the events like the virgin birth and the bodily resurrection of Jesus is really metaphorical. Didn't really happen. And and each year, they keep tearing it down and down and down. They care less or more about what it says as long as they get the approval of the world. I don't know if you know this, but in Canada, you can be arrested for preaching certain truths out of this book, and pastors have been arrested for preaching certain truths out of this book.”
