The will of God begins here: that sinners are saved. Second Peter 3 places that truth in the middle of scoffers who mock creation, the flood, Christ’s coming, and the authority of God’s Word. God is not slow concerning His promise. God is patient, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. Yet the broad way still leads to destruction because sinful people love darkness, reject the gospel, follow their own lusts, and remain dead in trespasses and sins.
Christ stands as the one and only way of salvation. Acts 4 declares that there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which sinners must be saved. Jesus was betrayed, mocked, beaten, scourged, pierced, crucified, and raised from the dead. Jesus is the rejected stone who became the cornerstone, the Lamb of God, the Good Shepherd, the King, and the Savior. Divine love does not leave sinners to construct a way back to God. Christ Himself bears sin and opens the only way to heaven.
Justification by faith brings peace with God through the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 5:1 declares a finished reality: having been justified. God regards and treats the sinner who believes in Christ as righteous on the ground of Christ’s sacrificial death. God issues a final not guilty verdict at the very moment of saving faith. God blots out sin, grants immediate peace, and gives a permanent standing before Him, even when the believer does not feel righteous.
Salvation stands against every religion of human achievement. Human achievement says, “I’m a good person,” trusts self, works hard, keeps rules, and produces pride and guilt. Divine accomplishment rests in the grace and mercy of God, brings humble repentance, and trusts that Jesus saves. Scripture alone and faith alone guard the church from replacing Christ’s finished work with human merit, religious tradition, or works.
The effects of justification are massive. God removes condemnation, adopts believers into His family, gives them every spiritual blessing, places them in Christ, puts Christ in them, forgives them, and gives power not to sin. God also calls sinners to count the cost, repent, and believe. Romans 10 holds out the promise plainly: everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Key Takeaways
- 1. God’s patience calls sinners to repent [07:12] God’s delay is not weakness, forgetfulness, or indifference toward evil. God’s patience leaves room for repentance while His promised judgment remains certain. The open door of mercy should never be treated as permission to remain comfortable in sin. Repentance means turning from sin and turning to God. [07:12]
- 2. Jesus alone saves from sin [13:38] Christ is not one religious option among many. Jesus is the only mediator between holy God and guilty sinners because He alone died as the sin-bearing substitute and rose again. The rejected cornerstone has become the foundation of salvation. Every hope built apart from Christ finally collapses. [13:38]
- 3. Justification gives permanent peace with God [16:03] God’s verdict over the believer is not based on a changing emotional state or a record of religious performance. God declares righteous the sinner who trusts in Christ because Christ’s righteousness is counted in that sinner’s place. This verdict is finished, completed, and permanent. Peace with God rests on grace alone. [16:03]
- 4. Divine accomplishment defeats human achievement [25:11] Human achievement produces self-confidence, strict rule keeping, pride, and guilt because it tries to make sinners acceptable by their own effort. Divine accomplishment begins with the mercy of God and ends in humble trust in Christ. Salvation is not earned by good deeds, tradition, or willpower. Jesus saves sinners who cannot save themselves.
