Psalm 1 sets a gracious but searing choice before every heart: life under God’s good reign or life under self-rule. The master gardener uses the slow work to shape the kind of fruit He intends to produce.

The wicked, by contrast, are like chaff driven away by the wind. Chaff may look abundant, but it has no gravitas, no weight, and no lasting substance. The way that seems right to man ends in destruction, while what is done in the kingdom of God lasts.

Christ stands as the only truly righteous One, the One who delighted perfectly in His Father’s will and never sat in the seat of scoffers. Christ receives sinners, plants them in the life-giving soil of His righteousness, and transforms them from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. Psalm 1 therefore calls every heart to ask a plain question: whose rule is it under?
