“People are lacking to do the right thing these days. It's all about their thing and not about the other man or other woman in in their life. Now Paul was falsely arrested for blaspheming the temple by entering ceremonially unclean having been with the Gentiles. That was the charge. It was not true. He was released from a near beating by the authorities. Remember the commander Claudius Lis swooped in. He thought he was someone else that they were looking for, but no. And Paul claimed Roman citizenship.”
“It's a reminder to us as Christians that we too, born again Christians, hold a dual citizenship. We're citizens of this world, but we're in the world and really not of the world. Our citizenship papers have been rewritten for heaven. Can I get a witness? Heaven is our home.”
“Paul always respecting authority even when it's unjust toward him. He's quoting Exodus 22:28, the law that they should be abiding by. It says, "You shall not revile God nor curse a ruler of your people." And in spite of the corruption of Ananas and many rulers up to this very day in history uh and the physical brutality that he's experiencing and many have over history from unjust authorities, we still can see Paul having this respect from the heart for the office that this person is holding, this corrupt person is holding uh this high priest office that God put into place.”
“We as Christians need to be an example to a world that doesn't know what it is to be respectful anymore and respect people in spite of their disrespect toward us. As much as is in us, as much as we're able, we respect that office because it's God-given. Can I get an a witness? Amen. Whether we agree or not, those in authority are God's instruments for carrying out the purpose of governing.”
“Now, the result is when we obey the principles of this passage and be respectful even when we're disrespected in the governing bodies around us, we give genuine credibility to our faith because that's not a natural thing to do. Can I get a witness? But it is a supernatural, God charged, Godfueled thing for us to do. If we're under his influence, we can do it.”
“As believers, we are called to honor our governing authorities and their rights as such. But we may not give to the government those rights that belong to God alone. When they cross the line and cross God's scripture out, then we can take a stand respectfully. But uh other than that, we've got to fall in line and respect them and God will take care of them in the end.”
“We are called to be a people of discipline because God wants to instill in us spiritual disciplines that bring glory to his name. And we are called to be walking in his righteousness. It has to be his because we have none. And when we walk in his righteousness, we display his justice when it all comes down to uh to his judgment.”
“When we show up before a lost crowd, we are to be Jesus before them. And the world is watching us. And when we show respect to others, believe you me, they may not say it verbally, but they're taking note in their hearts of how we're conducting ourselves. They know it's the right way and they know it's God's way. Can I get a witness?”
“Do you see God's providential care at work? Do you see God sovereignly behind the scenes protecting Paul during this incident? That's what he does for his people. God is always behind the scenes ordering our steps if we care to listen, to be still and know that he's God, to trust in him, to call out to him, to ask him for guidance and direction.”
“God's providence, the protective care of God has showed up. And God is sovereignly orchestrating all human events to bring us into right relationship with him and one another to love God and love neighbor. It's a quote from Patrick Moley. I love that quote. Memorize that quote. That's such a great one.”
“It's God continually rearranging our circumstances as believers to make it most likely we're going to exercise our free will according to the plan of God who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will. That's in Ephesians 1:11. In other words, he makes or allows life to get so frustrating that we have nowhere else to turn.”
“Paul could live with confidence and boldness that God's providence and protection plan, guaranteed his life would be preserved no matter what circumstances he found himself in because the Lord stood by him. According to this verse, God is revealing that uh be of good cheer, Paul. You've testified for me in Jerusalem. You must bear witness at Rome.”
“If Jesus says you're going to Rome and you're locked up in a jail and you're beaten half to death, you're going to Rome. Doesn't look like you're going to Rome. Doesn't make sense that you're going to Rome. The authorities are telling you you're not going anywhere. Jesus said, "You're going to Rome. You're going to Rome."”
“So, when Paul's sister's son, that's an interesting thing. He's got some relatives there. I don't know what they're doing there. Um, Paul's pretty much ostracized from his family after becoming a Christian. So, this is interesting, but we don't have any follow-up information. We just know that God worked out all this circumstance to have some family there to help Paul for such a time as this.”
“So, here's God's providence and protection plan in play for Paul. Again, he failed to mention any crimes against Roman law. Um, and that means Paul could be declared innocent very easily by by Felix. Felix isn't going to judge Jewish law. He has no jurisdiction there. So, it's a setup by God who's sovereignly orchestrating all human events to bring us in the right relationship with him and one another. Amen.”
“Listen, I say this all the time. Things are not falling apart in the world for the Christian. Things are coming together to fulfill God's kingdom plan here on earth for his children. Can I get a witness? We can't see it yet, but we know that God allows these things for a reason. And that's his plan. His plan is good.”
