Day 1: The Rib Near the Heart – God’s Design for Intimacy
God formed Eve from Adam’s rib, placing her neither beneath his feet nor above his head, but close to his heart. This physical positioning reveals marriage’s purpose: lifelong closeness, protection, and equal partnership. The Creator’s careful craftsmanship of Eve shows marriage is not about hierarchy but sacred companionship. When spouses prioritize heart-level connection over roles or demands, they honor God’s original blueprint. Unity begins when we see our partner as bone of our bone, flesh of our flesh. [02:57]
And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. (Genesis 2:22-24, ESV)
Reflection: Where have you placed your spouse this week – near your heart, under your feet, or above your head? What practical step can you take to close the distance between your hearts?
Day 2: Leaving to Cleave – Cutting Parental Strings for Oneness
Marital unity requires severing childhood dependencies. God’s command to “leave” parents isn’t about abandonment but reordering loyalties. Like Adam stepping away from Eden’s solitude, spouses must choose daily to prioritize their covenant over family traditions, opinions, or comforts. Undivided allegiance protects the marriage from becoming a triangle. Oneness flourishes when parents shift from primary advisors to honored guests. [08:41]
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. (Genesis 2:24, ESV)
Reflection: What invisible string still ties you to parental expectations or approval? How might cutting it free your marriage to thrive?
Day 3: The Queen Who Forgets – Wives’ Call to New Allegiance
Psalm 45’s royal bride hears a radical command: “Forget your people.” Her beauty shines when she transfers her primary identity from daughter to wife. This forgetting isn’t erasure but surrender of old dependencies. As Christ’s church leaves worldly attachments for her Bridegroom, so wives honor husbands through wholehearted devotion. True security comes not from clinging to the familiar but embracing covenantal love. [11:52]
Hear, O daughter, and consider, and incline your ear: forget your people and your father’s house, and the king will desire your beauty. (Psalm 45:10-11, ESV)
Reflection: What “father’s house” mentality (habits, fears, or loyalties) do you still entertain? How might releasing it deepen your marital trust?
Day 4: Spirit-Filled Homes – The Fuel for Family Life
Ephesians sandwiches marriage instructions between two vital commands: “Be filled with the Spirit” and “Stand against the devil.” Domestic life is spiritual warfare. Arguments over chores or parenting often mask demonic schemes to divide. Only through daily reliance on the Spirit can spouses mirror Christ’s sacrificial love and the church’s reverence. The same power that raised Jesus fuels patience during sleepless nights and grace during misunderstandings. [17:46]
And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18, ESV)
Reflection: When tensions rise, do you react in the flesh or pause to invite the Spirit’s filling? What one conflict needs His intervention today?
Day 5: Armor for the Altar – Guarding Marriage from Attack
Satan targeted Eden’s marriage first – he still aims at unions today. Ephesians 6’s armor isn’t just for personal holiness but marital survival. Truth buckles lies about incompatibility. Faith’s shield extinguishes darts of resentment. Salvation’s helmet guards against despair. Prayer keeps partners fighting for, not against, each other. Every godly marriage becomes a gymnasium where love’s muscles strengthen through resistance. [18:16]
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. (Ephesians 6:10-11, ESV)
Reflection: What piece of spiritual armor have you neglected to wear? How might suiting up together protect your marriage’s sacred ground?
Sermon Summary
Genesis begins with God’s purpose for man and woman, even though the Old Testament gives hardly any emphasis to family life. Genesis 2 shows that God did not make marriage as an afterthought. God says that it is not good for man to be alone, and then brings the animals before Adam. Adam discovers that none of them is suitable because none has his nature. That picture presses one clear lesson on those considering marriage: outward attraction, usefulness, or beauty cannot replace a shared spiritual nature. A born again person must not unite with someone who is not born again.
The rib taken from Adam’s side also carries God’s wisdom. The woman was not taken from Adam’s head to rule over him, and she was not taken from his foot to be stamped on as a slave. God took her from his side, near his heart. The husband is therefore called to keep his wife near his heart, not merely to speak Bible verses while ignoring what God has said from the first pages of Scripture.
Genesis 2:24 places a condition before becoming one flesh: a man must leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife. Psalm 45 gives the corresponding word to the wife: “Forget your people. Forget your father and mother.” God does not command neglect of parents. God commands a new order of loyalty. Parents must be loved, cared for, and even helped financially, but they must not come between husband and wife. Children too must never come between husband and wife.
Ephesians places family life between two tremendous commands: be continuously filled with the Holy Spirit, and stand against the devil with the whole armor of God. That placement is no accident. Marriage requires the fullness of the Spirit because the devil seeks to do what he did in Eden: separate husband and wife from God and from one another. Satan’s attacks are not proof that God has abandoned marriage. They are the strain through which spiritual strength can be built, like muscles becoming strong under resistance.
Ephesians closes with plain words that must be obeyed: husbands must love their wives, and wives must respect their husbands. God’s commands are for the good of those who obey them. Christ Himself lived by refusing His own will and doing the Father’s will. Marriage finds its happiness not through arguments about who has failed, but through humble repentance, serious attention to Scripture, and obedience to God’s order.

Key Takeaways
1. Shared spiritual nature matters in marriage. Genesis makes Adam reject every creature that did not share his nature. Physical beauty, ability, and attraction may look impressive, but they cannot create the unity God intends. A marriage between a born again believer and an unbeliever begins with a division at its deepest point. [05:32]
2. A wife belongs near her husband’s heart. The rib came from Adam’s side, not his head or foot. God thereby rejects both domination by the wife and harsh control by the husband. Love must treat a wife as one joined close to the heart, with dignity, tenderness, and faithful care. [06:34]
3. Marriage requires a new primary loyalty. Genesis requires leaving father and mother before becoming one flesh. Care for parents remains a biblical duty, but marriage partners must not allow parental influence to divide what God has joined. A home cannot stand in peace when another relationship takes first place. [11:34]
4. The Spirit strengthens marriage against Satan. Ephesians puts family life between being filled with the Spirit and resisting the devil. Marriage is spiritual warfare because Satan still tries to separate people from God and from each other. Dependence on the Spirit turns pressure and temptation into occasions for victory. [17:31]
5. Love and respect obey God’s final word. Ephesians gives husbands the command to love and wives the command to respect. Neither command becomes a weapon for demanding change from the other person. God’s order calls each heart to bow before Him and obey what has been personally commanded.
Genesis 2:18-25 “Then the Lord God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him." Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, "This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.” [01:51]
Ephesians 5:18-6:10 “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honor your father and mother" (this is the first commandment with a promise), "that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land." Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free. Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him. Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” [15:21]
Psalm 45:10-11 “Hear, O daughter, and consider, and incline your ear: forget your people and your father's house, and the king will desire your beauty. Since he is your lord, bow to him.” [10:25]

Sermon Clips
And he didn't take a bone out of Adam's foot to tell Adam, Adam, don't stamp on your wife. She's not your slave. Your she was taken out of your side, near your heart to teach you, Adam, always, always to keep your wife near your heart. [00:06:42]
The other thing I want to ask you, do you believe that every command of God is for your good? Do you believe that God is the best father there exists better than any earthly father who desires the very best for you? That if you obey his command, you'll be the happiest person on the earth. [00:13:49]
He lived on earth in absolute obedience to the father saying I'll never do my own will. I'll always do the will of my father. Day after day from a childhood he said I will not do my own will. I'll do what my father says. I'll do what my father says. And at the end of his life, I mean at the end of 30 years, the father had watched him for 30 years and said, "I'm well pleased with him." [00:14:18]
And how do they build the muscles? Every every object in that gymnasium is meant to subject some muscle in your body to strain. Whether it's the arm muscles or the stomach muscles or the leg muscles or to be subject to some strain and become strong. That's exactly what the Lord wanted Adam and Eve to face so that they become strong. That's why he allowed the devil to come to the garden of Eden [00:19:02]
You must be attached to your marriage partner more than to your earthly parents. Care for them, love them, help them, even help them financially, but they must not never come between you and your wife. Not even your children must come between you and your wife, your husband. [00:20:20]
the day a man gets married, he wants to become one flesh with his wife. Right? He's eagerly looking forward to it. But there is a condition. You know what the condition is? To become one flesh with your wife. He must leave his father and mother first. [00:08:18]
You need to be filled with the spirit in order to live properly with your husband and wife. In order to bring up your children properly, you need to bring up your children properly and live with husband wife. Remember, Satan is there to attack you. So stand against him. [00:17:38]
Complete disobedience to God's word. No wonder God does not give them revelation on other parts of scripture. This is the first pages of scripture. And if they don't take the first pages of scripture seriously, God says you're not going to get revelation on anything else in scripture. [00:09:13]
And the Bible says, "Husbands, the last last verse of Ephesians 5, husbands, love your wives, wives, respect your husbands." Did you hear that? See the last verse of Ephesians 5. Husbands, love your wives. Wives, respect your husbands. [00:20:38]
Now see what is written between these two verses. What is written between Ephesians 5:18 and Ephesians 6:10? Everything about family life. How husbands and wives should behave with each other. How they should bring up their children. [00:17:12]
Ephesians 5:18. Be continuously filled with the Holy Spirit. That's the meaning there. be being filled with the Holy Spirit. It's the it's the most important thing in the Christian life. Be filled with the Holy Spirit. But it's mentioned only in Ephesians. [00:16:16]
you know, if you read the Bible exactly and slowly, you learn a lot more than if you rush through it. I'm telling you from my own experience that when you read slowly, you read one verse and meditate sometimes on one verse for 5 minutes, you'll discover a lot of things that you did not discover when you just read through it. [00:01:54]
It's all about man obeying God's commandments and not worshiping idols. But there's not a single verse about a husband loving his wife or a wife submitting to the husband or how you should bring up your children. These things are not there. [00:00:22]
And many men, even Christians, they look at the pretty face, they don't think of nature, and they get married. And that's the beginning of calamity. So that's the first lesson you learn right there. [00:05:32]
