“``What this all means then is that if our sin is not killed in this world, it will kill us eternally in the next. The sin has to be done away with. So the law of God comes down on us with all of its righteous fury And it does that to expose our sin and to lay us low, killing us in order that the gospel can make us alive again. Right? If the law of God doesn't expose and destroy our sin, then we're gonna have that sin forever and that's not life. That's death. Right? The same Jesus who says, get behind me, Satan. He forgives and restores Peter too.”

“The gospel is hidden in Christ and in his death for the forgiveness of sins. And the gospel is hidden in simple words that are being spoken by sinful men. Right? It's in a splash of water. Right? Upon heads of all shapes and sizes. It's in a little piece of bread and a tiny sip of wine. In fact, the gospel was hidden in the son of man who was conceived by the holy spirit and born of the virgin Mary, which is exactly the reason why he suffered and died and was buried at the hands of sinful men. They didn't know what they were doing. How do we know that they didn't know? Because God himself said what was one of the first things he said from the cross? Father, forgive them because they're clueless idiots. Father, forgive them. They know not what they do.”

“Right? Amid this daunting presentation of the law is hidden this sweet gospel. And it's hidden in that it's not seen by those who cannot and and do not with the eyes of faith see their Lord Jesus speaking to them. When he says, if you receive me, there were plenty of people there who didn't receive him. They looked at him and they said, you're the carpenter guy. I don't believe that you're God. We don't have faith in you. We don't trust in you. We reject you. Then they reject you, the one who sent him. But for the ones who have eyes of faith, the gospel is there. It's hidden. The gospel is hidden in Christ and in his death for the forgiveness of sins. And the gospel is hidden in simple words that are being spoken by sinful men. Right? It's in a splash of water. Right? Upon heads of all shapes and sizes. It's in a little piece of bread and a tiny sip of wine.”

“It's not just good news. In fact, it's the best news. News that Jesus Christ is here. He's right here to forgive To forgive you all of your sins. That's the good news. Alright? The gospel message. And simply having received it, the believer also receives the one who earned it on the cross. The one who delivers it into their ears, upon our lips, and our tongues, over our heads, and engraves it in our hearts. You have been changed by the gospel. Right? In the gospel lesson from Matthew, the good news message is hidden in that phrase, he who receives you receives me. And he who receives me receives him who sent me. Now who said that? Jesus. Right? So Jesus is saying if you receive me, Jesus, you receive him who sent me, the father.”
