God’s purpose comes before a person’s birth, before God ever said, “Let there be.” Jeremiah 1 shows that God knew Jeremiah in the womb and had holy plans for him, and that same truth reaches every person God has created. The choice is whether a person will coast through life or become purpose driven by God’s plan.
Jesus gives the pattern in John 17:4: He brought God glory by finishing the work God gave Him to do. Belief cannot stay surface level, because Satan and demons know who Jesus is. Trust in Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection has to get down in the soul and show up on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and every day after church is over. Purpose is a lifestyle, not a church moment, a shouted song, or a prayer repeated without real thankfulness.
Romans 8:28 belongs to those who love God and are called according to His purpose, not to every plan a person comes up with. A calling is an assignment, a mission, and the reason God created somebody. Noah built the ark, Abraham became the father of many nations, and Moses led God’s people out of Egypt. God gives each person a specific purpose, and frustration often comes when personal plans keep hitting a brick wall because they do not line up with God’s plan.
God’s sovereignty can flip what society expects, just as He said the older Esau would serve the younger Jacob. God’s calling also does not disappear because of sin, failure, abuse, or a messy past. Paul persecuted and killed Christians, yet God used his life mightily and gave him words that still feed the church. God does not waste mistakes; He can use a person’s scars, experience, and past deliverance to help somebody else find the Lord.
A job is not necessarily a calling. Jobs change, but calling is how a person worships God through the permanent assignment He has given. God also gives power for what He calls a person to do. Moses had a stutter, and fear may still show up, but God says, “Open your mouth.” The Holy Spirit supplies what is needed when a willing vessel obeys.
The body of Christ needs every piece connected and involved. A hand cut off from the body cannot do what a hand was made to do. Satan works through offense, division, and hurt feelings because disconnected believers cannot fully give others what God placed in them. The dash between birth and death must mean something, because eternity is forever and the choice of whom to serve cannot be delayed.

Key Takeaways
- 1. Purpose begins before earthly life. God’s plans are not last-minute responses to human failure or success. Calling reaches back to God’s knowledge of a person before birth, which means identity cannot finally be defined by public opinion, pain, or present confusion. The real question is not whether God has purpose, but whether a person will seek and obey it. [05:50]
- 2. Surface belief cannot carry a life. Trust in Christ is more than agreeing that Jesus exists or repeating religious words at the right time. Faith becomes real when Christ is embedded in the soul and shapes ordinary choices, private gratitude, and daily conduct. A purpose-driven life requires more than Sunday belief followed by Monday independence. [09:09]
- 3. God does not waste broken history. Paul’s violence did not cancel God’s claim on his life, and no past sin or wound has the authority to erase God’s purpose. Grace does not call evil good, but God can turn redeemed experience into a bridge for someone else’s deliverance. The very place of past bondage may become the place from which a believer speaks with truth and compassion. [26:15]
- 4. Calling needs a connected body. A believer cannot fulfill a God-given assignment alone in a closet, detached from other believers. The body needs every piece, and sitting in the pew without involvement withholds something God intended to supply through that person. Offense and isolation become spiritual warfare when they keep love, service, and witness from reaching others. [35:16]
- 5. The dash must mean something. The little dash between a birth date and a death date represents an entire earthly life before eternity. A life of faith leaves behind more than memories; it gives others reason to see that Christ was real in that person’s suffering, service, and love. Eternity makes temporary excuses look very small.
