Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

1. "There's a side of our humanity that sometimes believes in our own power more than we believe in the power of God. You don't believe me this morning. Um. In my humanity, and I won't call other men out, I'll take one for the team. I'm not mechanically inclined from the point of being able to build an engine of a car. Best I can do is make sure it gets to the dealership and get the oil changed. Whatever they say is wrong, I gotta trust them to get it right. Give me a computer, I can design it, create it, I can fix it, engineer it. But cars are different." [19:22] (51 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

2. "Why is it that even today, as children of the Most High God, we have specific instruction on how to live. But we talk to the side. Because we say, we see where we going. The culture is showing me. Why do I need the words and the pictures that are given? How many of y'all know what Bible really stands for? You know, we learned as kids. B-I-B-L-E. Basic instruction before leaving earth. And what God does is says, I'm going to give you a clear and decisive direction on how to move. And then I'm going to show you what happens if you don't move according to my plan." [23:02] (56 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

3. "The first four words of the Bible form the foundation of our faith. In the beginning. Believe these words and you can believe all that follows the Bible. But if you don't believe. Or get. Or accept. Or hold on to the first. The very first four words of the Bible. The rest will not. Because you won't be able to trust. When you don't see or understand. Genesis provides the only authoritative account of the creation. Meaningful for people of all ages but. Exhaustible. By no one. The divine record assumes. The existence. Of God. Rather than seeking. To prove it." [28:24] (61 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

4. "The Bible is a single story. It's not like the. Particle romance books my mother used to read. That I would pick up every now and again. And realize real quick that it's not my kind of reading. But the Bible is a. Single story. It doesn't appear to be. One story. It doesn't appear to be but it is. The Bible is a long book. Written over 1500 years. In numerous. Different. Genres. But if you look closely enough. You'll find. One cohesive. Story. With unity. And a compelling narrative." [30:19] (53 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

5. "Before any one of the 118 elements. On the periodic table. Were created. Before even an atom or molecule. Came into existence. God was. And this morning. We're not looking back for curiosity's sake. Or even to fill our minds. With high and exalted thoughts. That lend themselves to philosophical matters. We're looking back. In order that our hearts. Will be inflamed with a love. For God." [34:15] (30 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

6. "If we love God as believers. We should be leaders. In God's love. In God's word. That's the L. Leaders in God's word. We ought to be observers. Of God's word. We ought to be victors. Through God's word. And we ought to be empowered. By God's word. Did you miss it? Look on the screen. There it is. If we love God. We ought to be leaders. In God's word. We ought to be observers. Of God's word. We ought to be victors. Not victims. Victors through God's word. And then we're empowered by God's word." [35:24] (48 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

7. "God is self-existent. He was already there. He is already here. God has no beginning. God has no ending. God has never created. He never came into being. He was never created. He is just there. There is a theology. That says that. God is good. But then. He gets greater. And he gets better. But if that were the case. That would say. That there was some other source. That makes him better. Greater. Or some folk would say. Gooder. We know it is old heresy. But yet it has become a modern. And teaching. Processed theology. God is not some small good thing. That will eventually become better. And then greater. God is good. God is great. God is amazing." [38:04] (77 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

8. "God doesn't need anything. Or anyone else. How do I know it? Acts 17. 24 and 25 says. The God who made the world and everything in it. Being the Lord of heaven and earth. Does not live in temples made by man. Nor is he served by human hands. As though he needed anything. Since he himself gives. To all mankind. Life and breath. And everything. Is fragile. In our humanity. If your supply of oxygen is cut off. Then you die. If the sun is blocked off. From you for an extended period of time. And you lack heat. We can die. Our lives are dependent on so many intricate details. In life. Going right. But what happens. When things go wrong." [41:16] (58 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

9. "God created us for worship. That we might worship him. He doesn't need our worship. But he created us for worship. That we might worship him. He doesn't need our tithes and offering. But he created us for worship. Because giving is a part of worship. He doesn't need us loving our neighbor. But he requires that we do. Because our love for our neighbor. Expresses our worship. And our love toward God. And so we walk in the sanctuary. And somebody sits in our seat. But God in us won't let us get up. We just go find another seat." 10. "The God who was at work creating everything. Was the triune God. Without. And within the one Godhead. There is God the Father. God the Son. And God the Holy Spirit. What does this mean? It means at least two. Very important things. Number one. You see the priority. Of relationships. Had God been there from the beginning. And he was alone. And God wanted him to love. But God was not alone. Preacher you confused me now. You said God was one. But now you are saying he wasn't alone. What is going on here? Instead we see that everything that was created. Was created in the trinity. God the Father. God the Son. And God the Holy Spirit. They are one." [45:21] (54 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)
