“Prior to the cross, we were dead. We were slaves to sin. And then because of the blood of Christ, we are now alive and we are with him. We have the opportunity to be with him for eternity.”
“We’re doing it because in in Matthew 25:40, Jesus says, "Whatever you do for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you do for me." It’s a command in scripture to care for those who are hurting economically.”
“When you take a mission trip, you go to change lives and radiate Jesus. But you are the one who comes back changed. So, I challenge you. I challenge you. Some of you, so many of you have told me you want to go on a trip. It’s time.”
“All the things that we do here locally, I’m the outreach guy. I can tell you only comes through your obedience and giving through the local church. Whether it’s hope for Christmas, whether it’s providing food bags across the world, it’s only done through your generosity.”
“These are four of my favorite chapters in the Bible. Quite honestly, when we were laying out the book of Job, I was so excited to get to this moment. Um, this is week six in our series uh on the book of Job, out of the ashes.”
“At the end of the day, Job knew that God would redeem all the pain that he had endured and everything that he had lost. However, that didn’t stop his friends, Job’s three friends, Bildad, Zofar, and Elephaz, from wearing him down with long speeches about what they thought God must be doing.”
“God’s purpose was not to scold Job, but to invite him into a bigger perspective. God’s address to Job can be summarized by three questions. Let’s tackle question number one. Job, can you explain my creation?”
“God’s not doubting Job’s integrity or sincerity. He is questioning his ability to explain the ways of God in the world. Job thought he knew about God, but he didn’t realize how much he didn’t know. And so God decides to take Job on a tour of the cosmos.”
“If God can bring out the stars by number, he can handle the details of your life. If God can call the stars by name, then he is more than interested in what you’re going through this morning.”
“In his wisdom and his power, God governs the entire universe and he makes sure that every living thing has all it needs to survive. Psalm 145:16 says, "You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing."”
“God’s providence and create creation mandates surrender. Job Job didn’t need to manage what God already governs. Proper response to divine providence isn’t more argument. It’s surrender. And surrender for a follower of Jesus isn’t a loss of control. It’s actually the doorway to peace and contentment.”
“God is asking Job if he has the strength and the holy wrath it takes to judge sinners. He says, "Job, if you’ve got it, start judging. Humble yourself. Excuse me. Humble the proud and crush the wicked. You claim that you can do a better job than me than I can do to bring justice to the world.”
“Everything under heaven belongs to me. God is reminding Job that sovereignty and justice belong to him alone. Job wanted to put God on trial. That’s what God that’s what Job wanted to do. He wanted to put him on trial.”
“This is Job’s first moment of surrender. He doesn’t try to argue. He doesn’t try to justify himself. He simply surrenders. The man who who who once demanded answers is now silenced by awe.”
“God may not answer our questions, all of our questions, but he will always reveal himself. Job didn’t actually need answers. what he needed was an encounter with God. Sometimes simply knowing that God is with you is more more comforting than understanding your pain.”
