Paul writes to spiritually dead people – those who once followed Satan’s rule, consumed by selfish passions. But God, rich in mercy, interrupted their funeral procession. He breathed life into corpses, not because they cleaned themselves up, but because He loved them. Grace came to gravesides. [16:10]

This resurrection wasn’t about human potential. Dead men don’t cooperate with their coroners. The same power that raised Christ from the tomb now revives those who trust Him. Grace isn’t a reward – it’s a rescue mission for rebels.

You once walked according to the world’s rhythm. Now Christ’s pulse beats in your veins. Where do you still act like a corpse when God calls you to dance?

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.”

Day 2: Faith’s Divine Fingerprints

Day 5: Imitators in Work Boots

The Ephesian marketplace buzzed with idol craftsmen. Now believers walked differently – not as perfectionists, but as apprentices. Their calloused hands built unity, their tongues spoke life, their feet carried peace. Good works weren’t abstract but as tangible as mended nets and shared bread. [01:00:48]

You don’t imitate God through dramatic gestures but daily obedience. A parent’s patience, a worker’s integrity, a neighbor’s kindness – these are the “good works” stamped with heaven’s seal.

Paul sets the tone by reminding that God’s saving action answers a real plight. Humanity is spiritually dead in sin, under wrath, with mind, heart, will, mouth, feet, and eyes corrupted. The cross meets that plight. Christ bears wrath as a substitution, so the Father is satisfied. Why would God give life to the dead and mercy to the guilty? Grace. “For by grace you have been saved.” Grace stands at the center of the paragraph and the flow of the chapter. Grace is not God topping off human effort. “Not of works, so that no one may boast” seals the point. Works cannot save, since even perceived righteousness apart from Christ is a filthy rag. Yet works inevitably follow, because union with Christ creates a new workmanship. “We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” God is the potter. Design comes before display. The life in Christ now walks in what God wrote into the story before the foundation of the world.

Paul does not leave “good works” to private hunches. Ephesians fills them out. Chapter 4 calls for humility, gentleness, patience, bearing with one another, and a rigorous guarding of the unity of the Spirit. The old self is put off, the new self put on. Falsehood is laid aside. Truth is spoken. Chapter 5 commands imitation of God in love, wise walking, redeeming the time, sobriety, Spirit-filled worship that sings psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to one another. Grace saves. Faith embraces. Union remakes. And the remade life walks.

And he decided before the foundation of the world, good works Christian for you. How encouraging is this?
