#RelyOnGod
“And that song can be sung genuinely and authentically by people who have said, God, it is your strength I am relying on, not my own. It is your goodness, your love that I am seeking after, not my own. And so then no matter the season that you are in, you can say, it is well with my soul. I can sing this praise to you not because I'm forced to, but because I get to. And that is what God offers to you and me. The good news is not that God gives broken people better instructions, right, or good advice. The good news is that through Jesus, God gives broken people forgiveness, power, and new life.”

“But that is why the gospel is good news. Or because Jesus says you don't have the power, but I do. You don't have the strength or the knowledge or the moral purity, but I do. So when you surrender your your life to the Lord, when you start depending on his strength more than your own strength, then you find something beautiful. You find a God who says, I will offer you salvation. Stop trying to carry around dead religion. Stop stop having this counterfeit mechanical God. No one said, come to me, not on your terms, but on mine, and find in me hope, fullness, and salvation. Find in me the the life that you so long for.”

“And that would leave a pretty dirty taste in your mouth. And I think it's it's similar to, that's similar to what Israel has done here with God. That, again, God had given them these sacrifices away as a way to worship them, as a way to honor him, as a way to draw their hearts near. But instead, they were they weren't offering these sacrifices with a surrendered heart. They were treating God almost like a service that they could buy or like an animal that they needed to feed. Right? They offered God payment, but what he really was after was their hearts. See, God does not want religious gifts in place of a surrendered life. He wants more than transactional consistency. He wants relational intimacy. And so let me just ask you to reflect for a moment. Where in your life do you find yourself treating your relationship with God like a transaction?”

#GodWantsYouNotGifts
“God is saying, I'm not the one who is in need. Don't treat me like I'm a vending machine. I don't need your stuff. Instead, I want you. Or to put it another way, I think what God is saying to these kinds of people is he is saying that God does not want religious gifts in place of a surrendered life. Now it's what and this is this is important because you can throw the baby out with the bathwater. As they say, God is not condemning their festivals or sacrifices or offerings. Actually, what they're doing is is good. Right? But he's saying it's your attitude towards these things. It's your heart that is not right.”
