#GodsBreakingArtistry
“``K. They may they may disrupt us and unquiet us, but kingdom break ins will never they will never make us feel alone or threaten our sense of who we are and the community that we belong to. That is God's breaking artistry. So in answer to that, you know, the disciples question, what's the kingdom of heaven like? What's the kingdom of God like? Jesus gives them parables. those parables kinda seem to toss a question right back at the disciples. He seems to be saying, well, all of y'all, how are you on the alert for how the kingdom of God is breaking in around you right now? I was thinking we can invest a lot of time and money and energy avoiding worldly break ins here, you know, on the island, and, you know, maybe we should. But are we alert for God's break ins? Are we spending our time and our talents aligning ourselves so that God's kingdom can break in?”

#WorshipRemakesWorld
“And every week, I see it in the fact that I can go to worship and be reminded again about Jesus' words, about the community of faith that somehow keeps finding ways to survive thousands and thousands and thousands of years. In a way, when we worship, when we sing together, create music together, pray together, we are remaking the world. We're cracking it wide open for the kingdom. Maybe you can see the kingdom in all kinds of ways that I can't, but we know we can trust God's breaking in the kingdom of heaven.”

#KingdomHereNow
“They keep pestering. Jesus, explain yourself. If you read the rest of Matthew, what do you mean? What's the kingdom of heaven like, they say? the first big I think is that the kingdom of heaven is right here, right now, always breaking in. It's not far off, but one we can experience glimpses of. And the next is kingdom break ins do have far reaching consequences. They are life giving and they matter. Sometimes when the kingdom breaks in, like that break in, that shocking one I described at the beginning of the talk. Sometimes when the kingdom breaks in, also for us, it jolts us out of the way we've been living our lives. It might break our routine. It might make us feel unsettled and unquiet, and we might be called to make changes or undertake service that we never expected because of it.”

#SeekingHiddenKingdom
“I was thinking we can invest a lot of time and money and energy avoiding worldly break ins here, you know, on the island, and, you know, maybe we should. But are we alert for God's break ins? Are we spending our time and our talents aligning ourselves so that God's kingdom can break in? I had to really think about that. I'd be dishonest if I said, I am able to see God's hidden yet present kingdom scattered throughout ordinary life all the time. Like, there are people who could recognize four leaf clovers. They find them all the time. I'd be dishonest if I said I was that person. I'm often frustrated that there's so much I don't get about God's hidden and revealed grace in the world.”

#KingdomInSmallActs
“I've seen the kingdom of heaven in moments of sheer unexpected grace that can pierce even profound grief. I've seen it in the tired professional on this island who chooses to answer the phone call even after long hours of work to help with another emergency. I've seen it in the helping hands fun in this church, which by the way, I was able to tell my friend whose car had been broken into about when she needed a part from one of the junkyards.”
