God has already defined Himself. Creation cannot tell the Creator who He is, because God has made Himself known as knowable, loving, holy, faithful, good, merciful, and more. God is also more than Sunday. If God is all-powerful, all-knowing, always present, and unchanging, then He is those things on Monday morning, Wednesday afternoon, Friday night, and every other moment too.
Sunday gathering is good, and singing, serving, giving, listening, and taking notes all matter. But one hour can become dangerous when it makes somebody feel like they are doing better spiritually than they actually are. Jesus never invited people to give Him a couple hours on Sunday. Jesus invited people to follow Him. Following Jesus is not something somebody can attend or accomplish in an hour or two. Following Jesus consumes an entire life.
Jesus says in Luke 9 that anyone who comes after Him must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow. Daily is a much more demanding word than weekly. Deuteronomy 6 puts love for God into the regular stuff of life: sitting at home, walking down the road, lying down, getting up, carpooling kids, grabbing dinner because there is no time to cook, going to work, sitting in the doctor’s office, and talking with a spouse after a long day. Jesus wants every day, not only Sunday.
Jesus also wants everything. Colossians says that whatever is done in word or deed should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus. The sacred and secular divide cannot hold up under that. Marriage, parenting, work, money, sexuality, entertainment, relationships, speech, politics, free time, browsing history, DMs, bank accounts, and Netflix watchlists are all Jesus’ business. Jesus died for the whole thing.
Romans 12 calls believers to offer their bodies as living sacrifices in view of God’s mercy. A living sacrifice is alive in Christ but dead to flesh, sin, and conformity to the world. Jesus is not after a better religious checklist. Jesus wants people to be different, with hope, joy, and peace that do not make sense apart from Him. Jesus did not come to be one important part of life. Jesus came to be Lord of life. God’s mercy calls every hidden, guarded, compartmentalized thing to be laid on the altar.

Key Takeaways
- 1. Jesus wants more than Sunday worship. Sunday matters, but it cannot become the benchmark for a relationship with Jesus. Church attendance can be faithful and still leave the rest of life untouched. Jesus asks a deeper question: “Did you follow Me today?” Discipleship begins where Sunday faith enters ordinary pressure, temptation, choices, and relationships. [08:35]
- 2. Daily faith belongs in ordinary life. Deuteronomy puts love for God into getting up, lying down, sitting at home, and walking along the road. The mundane parts of life are not interruptions to spiritual life. They are the actual places where love for God gets lived out. Jesus becomes more than Sunday when daily routines become places of real obedience. [12:59]
- 3. Nothing is outside Jesus’ lordship. The sacred and secular divide lets somebody protect certain areas from God’s authority. Scripture says “whatever” is done should be done in Jesus’ name and for God’s glory. Money, work, relationships, habits, entertainment, and private choices all belong under His lordship. Jesus does not get a piece of life because He died for the whole thing. [19:17]
- 4. Living sacrifices stay on the altar. Romans 12 does not call for a few religious activities but for an entire life offered in view of God’s mercy. A living sacrifice is alive in Christ while becoming dead to sin and the world’s pattern. God’s will becomes clearer as life is laid down, the mind is renewed, and conformity is refused. The thing still held back is the thing that needs to be brought to Jesus.
