[09:18]Observation questions- What differences can the group see between the actions and words of the servants who received five and two talents and the servant who received one talent?
- What reason does the one-talent servant give for hiding the money, and how does the master respond to that reason? [01:45]
- In Matthew 25, what three rewards does the master give to the faithful servants besides simply letting them keep what they earned? [20:28]
- According to Luke 16:10–13, what connection does Jesus make between handling money and being trusted with “true riches”? [21:58]
Interpretation questions- The master gave different amounts “according to [each servant’s] ability,” but he expected faithfulness from all three. How does this challenge the habit of comparing one person’s opportunities, income, abilities, or background with someone else’s? [03:46]
- The one-talent servant viewed his master as harsh and acted out of fear. How can a fearful or distorted view of God lead a believer to avoid generosity, responsibility, service, or wise financial choices?
- Jesus says that a person cannot serve both God and money. What are some practical signs that money has moved from being a useful servant to becoming a master? [23:08]
- Luke 16 says that faithfulness in little matters relates to faithfulness in much. Why might small choices—such as spending, saving, giving, honesty, and keeping commitments—matter so much in the formation of a believer’s character? [17:18]
Application questions- What is one gift God has placed in your hands right now—time, money, energy, experience, skills, relationships, or influence—that you may be tempted to bury or leave unused? What could it look like to put that gift into play this week? [02:26]
- Which fear most often holds you back: self-doubt, fear of failure, fear of what people think, or discouragement over past mistakes? What would a small step of trust in God look like in that specific area? [08:47]
- Have financial mistakes, a failure at work, a broken relationship, or another past failure caused you to stop trying? What would repentance, learning, and a fresh next step look like instead of self-pity? [10:27]
- Where are you most likely to compare yourself with “five-talent people” and conclude that your contribution does not matter? How can you focus instead on being faithful with what God has personally entrusted to you? [03:11]
- Financial freedom usually grows little by little. What is one realistic, repeatable practice you could begin or strengthen this month—tracking spending, paying down a debt, building savings, seeking help, giving consistently, or delaying an unnecessary purchase? [14:23]
- If God examined your use of money today, what area would most need attention: spending, debt, saving, giving, contentment, honesty, or planning? What is one wise and concrete change you could make before the next group meeting? [23:36]
- Jesus is Lord over every part of life, including finances. In what area of your life do you most need to place yourself under His management rather than trying to stay in control on your own? [26:07]
