We Serve a God of Miracles

The Red Sea shows that nothing is too difficult for almighty God. The waters are deep and wide, and the enemy is strong, but the Lord is stronger. Moses stretches out the rod, the Lord sends a strong east wind, the waters divide, and the ground is dry. God does not merely open a path; He makes a safe path through what looked impossible.

The pillar of cloud and fire shows that God protects His people while He prepares their deliverance. The same presence gives light to Israel and darkness to Egypt. The Lord stands between His people and their enemy, and Pharaoh cannot come near all that night. God removes His restraint from Pharaoh’s stubborn heart, lets Egypt pursue its own wicked desire, and then publicly displays His supreme power over Pharaoh, his army, his chariots, and his horsemen.

The drowning of Egypt shows that the enemy is no match for almighty God. The chariot wheels fall off, the army realizes “the Lord fights for them,” and retreat comes too late. When the waters return, Pharaoh’s strength is swallowed up, and not one of the pursuing Egyptians remains. Israel stands safe on dry ground, favored by God, seeing the great work the Lord has done.

The Red Sea escape declares that God makes a way where there seems to be no way. The same God who delivered Israel still intervenes according to His sovereign will and plan.
