39s
“And this week lays a foundation for us and there are two aspects of this particular reading that I want to focus my attention on in describing this foundation. first is probably pretty obvious as you look through the the passage. It's the simple and I think most clear statement about the identity, character, and nature of the God we worship, and it's the statement God is love. Does it get any simpler than that?”
35s
“It is all of our responsibilities to understand that the God that we are in relationship with is love. Doesn't say it is a God of love. It says, God is love. And the most sacred act we perform and the closest we ever get to knowing who God is or what God looks like is the act of simply loving one another unconditionally. That's our call, and it's the only pathway through those who would broker fear.”
40s
“When we are told and taught to be afraid of one another, When we are raised and conditioned to treat each other, not just differently, but with judgment and condemnation, we need to resist that with the reminder that, first of all, god is love and loves each and every one of us the same. And that our only response to what others are trying to trigger as fear can be and has to be and must remain love. It is our only pathway through this.”
