Day 1: When the Boat is the Answer, Not the Clouds

We often fixate on dramatic signs from God—clouds parting, voices from heaven—while missing His guidance in ordinary moments. Like the man stranded on a rock praying for rescue yet rejecting the boat sent to save him, we dismiss practical opportunities as “not spiritual enough.” God’s will often arrives through simple, tangible steps: a conversation, a need you can meet, a door cracked open. His whispers in the mundane require us to release our obsession with the spectacular and embrace obedient action. What “boat” have you overlooked while waiting for a miracle? [33:40]

And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.

Like agonizing over ping pong balls while life’s real game waits, we mistake endless deliberation for wisdom. God’s will isn’t a puzzle to solve but a path to walk—one step of faith at a time. Day 5: The Problem That Won’t Leave Your Mind

Like the pastor stirred by teachers’ struggles, your passion points to your mission. Don’t spiritualize it; don’t debate it. Move toward it. What issue demands your hands, not just your words? You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Sermon Summary

God’s will is not some one-time secret assignment hidden way out in the future. God has a specific and unique plan for each life today, this week, this year, and that plan is not only about using people for things but growing them into who he created them to be. The question is not whether God has a will, but whether people will recognize it and step into it.

Overspiritualizing causes people to wait for writing in the clouds while God has already put a boat in front of them. God often places people, needs, opportunities, and open doors right in the path, but the search for some huge mystical sign can make the obvious easy to miss. God’s will regularly looks like praying for one person, sharing his love, and using what is already in hand.

Overanalyzing causes people to hesitate until every possible outcome is clear. God does not usually hand out steps two through six before anyone takes step one. God’s will leads toward absolute trust, not absolute clarity, and no decision is still a decision. Fear can make people plan and wait until the opportunity has already passed.

Hard does not mean wrong. Peter says it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to suffer for doing wrong. Moses, the spies at the promised land, and Jesus in Gethsemane all show that anxiety, difficulty, and even suffering do not automatically mean God is saying no. God’s path can be hard and scary because God uses hard things to grow his people.

The Holy Spirit guides through Scripture, whispers, wise people, open doors, closed doors, God-given gifts, and the injustices that will not leave a person alone. Scripture tests every other impression because the Holy Spirit will never lead against God’s Word. God gives gifts as resources for the work he calls people to do, and the problem that makes someone say, “Somebody needs to do something,” may be the very place God is saying, “I made you. Just go do the thing.”

Romans 12 calls people not to copy the behavior and customs of the world, but to let God transform them by changing the way they think. God’s will is not always easy, but it is worth following. God’s straight and narrow path is where people discover that his will is good, pleasing, and perfect.
