God is not silent. God still speaks in 2026, but busy lives can leave people listening only for the yes they want, on the timeline they want, in a way that suits them. God speaks in ways people can understand, just as he called Moses by name from the burning bush and identified himself clearly. God was not speaking in code to a shepherd on the backside of the desert. God made his voice plain enough for Moses to hear.
Hebrews says that God spoke long ago through the prophets, but God has spoken most clearly through his Son. Jesus Christ is not one voice among many. Jesus is the clearest speech God has ever given. Scripture already says crystal-clear things that people often ignore, even while asking God for a burning bush moment.
Moses shows that God is patient with questions and fears. Moses asks, “Who am I?” He worries that people will not believe him, says he cannot speak well, and finally asks God to send someone else. God does not end the conversation. God answers Moses with reassurance: “I’ll be with you.” Fear can sound like “I’m too young,” “I’m too old,” “I don’t know enough,” “What if they ask something I cannot answer?” or “Somebody else will do it.” God has an answer for every question that rises when his call becomes personal.
God speaks through his Word, through prayer, through circumstances, and through people. The Word is not a spare comment from heaven or a place to hunt for a vibe. The Bible brings people before the presence of their Creator. Psalm 37 changes when delighting in the Lord becomes more important than getting the desires of the heart. God’s Word may comfort, but it may also press, convict, and keep showing up until obedience becomes unavoidable.
Prayer is not merely a speech or gripe session directed at God. Prayer becomes honest when fear is named instead of managed. Peace does not mean ease. Shalom means that everything is as it should be, even when the wheels of life have fallen off and the rest of the road cannot be seen.
Circumstances can reveal a need that keeps intersecting with a person’s gifts, a conversation that was never scheduled, or a delay that later proves to be God’s protection. Community can confirm what God has already been pressing through Scripture and prayer. Wisdom listens to a multitude of counselors rather than collecting opinions until somebody agrees.
Jesus says that his sheep hear his voice, he knows them, and they follow him. Eternal life rests not on church attendance or a list of good things, but on recognizing Jesus, trusting his cross and resurrection, and responding when he calls.

Key Takeaways
- 1. God speaks clearly through Christ Hebrews places Jesus at the center of God’s final and clearest word. Christ is not an optional addition to spiritual discernment, but the standard by which every other voice is tested. The desire for dramatic direction can become an excuse for ignoring the plain call of Christ already given in Scripture. [05:18]
- 2. Fear is not a final answer Moses brings real weakness, real questions, and real reluctance before God. God does not shame Moses for being afraid, but neither does God allow fear to become Moses’ identity or assignment. The promise “I’ll be with you” shifts the weight from human adequacy to divine presence. [12:39]
- 3. Scripture forms the desires of hearts Psalm 37 does not promise that God will rubber-stamp every desire. Delighting in the Lord reshapes what a person wants until the heart begins to hunger for what honors him. God’s Word often speaks by refusing to leave a person comfortable in old desires. [15:41]
- 4. Peace can exist without ease Shalom is deeper than a calm set of circumstances. God can give settled confidence while the future remains unclear, relationships remain painful, and obedience still feels costly. Peace becomes the strength to take the next faithful step without seeing the whole road. [19:14]
- 5. Christ’s sheep hear and follow Jesus joins hearing his voice with following him. Recognition of Christ is not merely agreement with facts, but a response of trust and obedience to the One who gives eternal life. The warning remains urgent because eternal life is found in Christ alone.
