God sees, hears, knows, and comes down, but God’s invitation does not stop with letting people know He is working. God initiates, and people respond. Matthew 4 shows Jesus walking by Peter and Andrew right where they are, calling them out of ordinary work with the words, “Follow me,” and they immediately leave their nets. Christ still walks into homes, jobs, fears, plans, and everyday life, calling people to join the work He has already started.
Objections reveal how quickly self-focus takes over. Peter and Andrew could have worried about the nets, the boat, the paycheck, and the identity tied up in being fishermen. Those “buts” protect comfort, timing, location, and the life people have already planned. Anxiety often becomes the voice of those objections: What will happen? What will be lost? How will this work?
Matthew 6:33 puts God’s kingdom ahead of all those worries. God knows what people need, just as He told Israel in Exodus that He saw, heard, and knew their suffering. God’s economy does not always work on a spreadsheet, but it works. The call to Illinois looked like it might cost the desire to be grandparents down the street, yet God eventually added that very joy back in ways that could not have been planned.
God’s invitation is bigger than the thing people are holding onto. Moses had to leave the safety and anonymity of the backside of the desert. Peter had to leave the comfort of a career where he was good at what he did. God did not call either man to abandon everything good for nothing. God called them to join Him in something much bigger: delivering His people, turning the world upside down with the gospel, and serving where He was already at work.
Faith does not wait until the nets are no longer needed. Faith does not wait until the grandparent plan works out or every detail is explained. Faith says yes right where it is, even when that yes is scary. God goes with those He sends. The God who told Moses, “I will be with you,” is the same Jesus who said, “Follow me.”
God is already working in students, community meals, hurting families, and the hunger for revival. Revival begins where spiritual satisfaction ends. God does not ask people to manufacture something impressive. God asks them to find where He is working and show up. Faith seeks first the kingdom, trusts the God who knows every need, and receives peace that passes understanding without demanding the understanding first.

Key Takeaways
- 1. God initiates; faith responds immediately. Jesus did not wait for Peter and Andrew to become more available, more secure, or more qualified. Christ met them in the middle of their work and called them to follow. Faith begins when God’s invitation becomes more important than the familiar nets still held in hand. [01:41]
- 2. Objections expose what sits at center. The word “but” can reveal the places where comfort, family plans, money, timing, or security have become controlling. God’s invitation can feel like an interruption only when personal plans occupy the center. God does not call people to despise good gifts, but He does call them to stop treating those gifts as ultimate. [15:59]
- 3. God’s economy works beyond calculation. Matthew 6:33 does not offer a formula for getting every desired outcome on demand. God promises that the Father knows what His children need and calls them to seek His kingdom first. What looks like loss in the moment may become a place where God adds blessing in a way no spreadsheet could predict. [07:48]
- 4. Faith leaves before every answer arrives. Faith is not peace after every detail has been explained. Faith is “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen,” trusting God before the path becomes clear. The peace that passes understanding requires surrendering the demand to understand everything first. [34:23]
- 5. God’s people join work already happening. God is at work in schools, meals, families, loneliness, and the longing for revival. The call is not always to create a new ministry or travel across the world. God often says, “Show up,” serve somebody, and join Him right where He is already moving.
