66s
“``So giving thanks for everything is quite a challenge. But, you know, Paul doesn't say give thanks for everything. The preposition used in the Greek e n translate in English as in, I n. So to perhaps better understand, we may need to think about first what giving thanks is not. We don't give thanks for bad things. Evil does not come from god, so we should not thank him for it. But when evil strikes, we can still be thankful for god's presence and for the good that he will accomplish through the distress. And Paul is not saying to be thankful for our hardships, but he's challenging us to be thankful in any circumstances. And this applies to every situation, good or bad, tragic or ordinary, but it's important for it to be a constant practice.”

“I'm sure you have all heard it said many times, words matter. And, yes, they certainly do. Often though, it can be those little words like in, on, of, is, for, and so on that can change the entire meaning of a sentence or a phrase. So giving thanks for everything is quite a challenge. “We don't give thanks for bad things. Evil does not come from god, so we should not thank him for it. But when evil strikes, we can still be thankful for god's presence and for the good that he will accomplish through the distress. And Paul is not saying to be thankful for our hardships, but he's challenging us to be thankful in any circumstances. And this applies to every situation, good or bad, tragic or ordinary, but it's important for it to be a constant practice. In Philippians four thirteen, Paul says, I can do all through him who strengthens me. And in the next part of the verse 18, Paul says, for this is the will of god. According to Paul, this view of thankfulness is not a mere suggestion, but it is a command, and it's the primary part of God's will for his disciples. It's god's will for us to live a life of holiness, love, and gratitude. It moves our focal point from problems to god's provision and faithfulness. Gratitude is the strength and perspective needed to maintain a thankful heart in all circumstances.”

“And in Romans five three, Paul says that we can rejoice even in suffering because of what the suffering produces in us. That suffering brings perseverance. Perseverance develops character. Character that has been tested develops hope, and God's hope never disappoints. In Romans eight eighteen, Paul says, the sufferings we encounter today are nothing compared to the glory we will see in the future. The sufferings we encounter today are nothing compared to the glory we will see in the future. So if we have this kind of outlook, we can give thanks in everything because we know how god is using those things in our lives to grow us now and in the future. When our perspective is given to us by his word, giving thanks in everything makes perfect sense, doesn't it?”
