Day 1: Mirror of Grace

The woman at the well met Jesus when she came for ordinary water. He saw her deepest shame yet spoke living water. Like her, we avoid mirrors that reveal our flaws. But James says God’s Word acts as a mirror – not to condemn, but to transform. The more we gaze at Christ’s grace, the more we crave holiness. [12:47]

Jesus didn’t demand perfection from broken people. He offered relationship. The disciples watched tax collectors and prostitutes find new life simply by believing. Our changed lives prove God’s power, not our willpower.

What sin have you stopped bringing to the mirror of grace? Write down one habit you’ve excused as “just how I am.” Will you let Christ’s forgiveness reshape it today?

“So Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness. Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham.”

Day 2: Divine Detours

Paul planned missionary journeys, but the Spirit blocked his path to Asia. A midnight vision redirected him to Macedonia. Closed doors became divine appointments. Like the pastor’s ice cream detour, God reroutes our frustration into fruitfulness. [41:12]

Jesus modeled this when He “had to go through Samaria” – breaking cultural norms to save one woman. Our interruptions are often God’s invitations. The disciples’ fishing failure became a miraculous catch when they obeyed Christ’s strange command.

Where have you banged on locked doors this week? List three recent frustrations. Could any be God’s redirection?

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Day 3: Grafted Into the Tree

Isaac inherited Abraham’s promise despite Ishmael’s seniority. Jacob received the blessing though Esau was firstborn. God grafts wild olive branches – Gentiles – into Israel’s family tree through faith alone. Our roots draw life from Christ’s righteousness, not our rituals. [48:13]

The Jerusalem Council settled this when Peter declared, “God made no distinction between us and them.” Like the Galatians, we still try to earn favor through rules. But the cross declares: “It is finished.”

What man-made requirement have you placed on yourself or others? Circle one religious habit you do out of obligation rather than love.

“For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Day 4: Practicing the Fruit

Peter sliced off ears in anger before Pentecost. Post-Pentecost, he healed a beggar with Christ’s compassion. The Spirit’s fruit grows through intentional cultivation – patience practiced in traffic jams, kindness shown to critics. [01:10:10]

Jesus told the adulterous woman, “Go and sin no more” AFTER demonstrating mercy. God’s kindness leads to repentance, not the other way around. When we fail, we don’t lose salvation – we miss the joy of reflecting our Father.

Day 5: Boasting in the Cross

Phil Robertson’s family told him, “You have to die” to find new life. The cross kills our old identity – addict, victim, achiever – and births “new creation.” Like Paul, we stop boasting in résumés or scars, finding our worth in Christ’s scars alone. [01:13:55]

The thief on the cross proved salvation requires only faith. No baptism, no good deeds – just “Remember me.” Yet true faith always births obedience. As James said, “I’ll show you my faith by my works.”

What dead part of your old self still tries to control your life? Name one area where you still seek human approval.

“But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.”

Sermon Summary

Paul opens Galatians with grace and peace from the Father and the Lord Jesus, who gave himself to deliver his people from this present evil age. Galatians 5 warns that those who attempt to be justified by law fall from grace. Integrity in the small things belongs to faith’s fruit because Jesus is not part-time High King and High Priest. If he is Lord, his word sets the lane.

Walking by the Spirit and not the flesh is not a slogan. Lust grabs. Love gives. The fruit of the Spirit names the Lord’s own posture toward sinners and becomes the disciple’s assignment toward others: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Practice plants grooves in the heart. Whatever gets practiced grows. The cross then becomes the only boast, because neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts, only a new creation. Dying to self so Christ can live is the good death. Scripture equips for rebuke, correction, and encouragement, and patience becomes godly character that trusts God’s timing while living a believable life that points to Jesus.
