God uses even the foolishness of a grown man crying to reach hard men, because God can take what looks weak and make it land with power. The Tree of Life image asks one question again and again: what changes show up when the tree is rooted in the real Jesus? The tree rooted in the world, wealth, porn, keeping up with the Joneses, or looking for love in all the wrong places produces one kind of life. The tree rooted in Jesus produces another kind of life, and Jesus says the difference becomes identifiable by fruit.

Jesus says a tree is known by its fruit, not by its costume. A wolf can look like a sweet little sheep for a while, but actions eventually show what is really growing inside. Paul says the Holy Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Galatians 5 is not a coffee mug line, because Paul wrote to transform lives, not to make pithy sayings.
