From Spirit-Filled to Spirit-Led: A Transformative Journey
Devotional
Day 1: Transitioning from Spirit-Filled to Spirit-Led
Being Spirit-filled is the initial experience of receiving the Holy Spirit, marking us as God's own. However, being Spirit-led involves a continuous relationship with the Holy Spirit, where we actively seek His guidance and direction in our daily lives. This transition is crucial for a deeper, more transformative Christian walk. While the joy and empowerment of being Spirit-filled are significant, the journey doesn't end there. It requires daily surrender, obedience, and a commitment to follow the Spirit's guidance in every aspect of our lives. [02:10]
Ephesians 5:18-20 (ESV): "And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Reflection: In what areas of your life do you need to transition from being Spirit-filled to Spirit-led? How can you actively seek the Holy Spirit's guidance today?
Day 2: Embracing Our Identity in Christ
Our identity in Christ is sealed by the Holy Spirit. This means we are marked and set apart for God's purposes. Understanding this identity helps us live a life that honors God, recognizing that we are not our own but belong to Him. The Holy Spirit's indwelling is a beautiful experience where we are sealed and identified as God's own. This identity calls us to live a life of holiness and dedication, constantly aware of His leading. [07:58]
1 Peter 2:9 (ESV): "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light."
Reflection: How does understanding your identity in Christ change the way you view yourself and your purpose? What steps can you take to live more fully in this identity today?
Day 3: Overcoming Barriers to Being Spirit-Led
Lack of awareness, disobedience, and complacency can hinder our ability to be Spirit-led. To overcome these, we must be intentional in our relationship with God, seeking His guidance and being obedient to His promptings. These barriers can prevent us from experiencing the fullness of life that God intends for us. Cultivating a deep relationship with God through prayer, worship, and the study of His Word is essential to overcoming these challenges. [42:55]
Hebrews 12:1-2 (ESV): "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."
Reflection: Identify one barrier that is preventing you from being Spirit-led. What practical steps can you take today to overcome this barrier and seek God's guidance more intentionally?
Day 4: The Role of the Word in Being Spirit-Led
The Holy Spirit leads us into all truth, which is found in the Word of God. To be Spirit-led, we must be rooted in Scripture, allowing it to guide our decisions and actions. This requires deliberate time and effort to study and meditate on God's Word. By doing so, we can navigate life's challenges with wisdom and discernment, making decisions that honor God and reflect His love to the world. [28:55]
Colossians 3:16 (ESV): "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God."
Reflection: How can you incorporate more of God's Word into your daily routine? What specific steps will you take to ensure that Scripture guides your decisions and actions today?
Day 5: Living a Spirit-Led Life
A Spirit-led life is marked by surrender, obedience, and a commitment to follow the Holy Spirit's guidance. This involves staying connected to God through prayer, worship, and a healthy church life, ensuring that we are continually growing in grace and knowledge. By allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth, we can navigate life's challenges with wisdom and discernment, making decisions that honor God and reflect His love to the world. [38:18]
Galatians 5:25 (ESV): "If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit."
Reflection: What does living a Spirit-led life look like for you personally? How can you cultivate a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit through prayer, worship, and community this week?
Sermon Summary
In today's gathering, we explored the profound difference between being Spirit-filled and Spirit-led. While many Christians experience the joy and empowerment of being Spirit-filled, the journey doesn't end there. It's crucial to transition from merely being filled with the Spirit to being led by the Spirit. This distinction is vital for a deeper, more transformative Christian walk.
Being Spirit-filled is the initial step, marked by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit when we accept Christ. This is a beautiful experience where we are sealed and identified as God's own. However, being Spirit-led requires an ongoing relationship and partnership with the Holy Spirit. It involves daily surrender, obedience, and a commitment to follow the Spirit's guidance in every aspect of our lives.
We delved into Ephesians 1:13 and 1 Corinthians 6:19, emphasizing that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. This means we must honor God with our bodies and lives, recognizing that we are not our own. The Spirit's presence within us calls for a life of holiness and dedication, where we are constantly aware of His leading.
Moreover, we discussed the challenges that prevent many from being Spirit-led, such as lack of awareness, disobedience, and complacency. These barriers can hinder our spiritual growth and keep us from experiencing the fullness of life that God intends for us. To overcome these, we must cultivate a deep relationship with God through prayer, worship, and the study of His Word.
Ultimately, being Spirit-led means allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth, as stated in John 14:17. This requires us to be rooted in the Word of God, as the Spirit will always lead us in alignment with Scripture. By doing so, we can navigate life's challenges with wisdom and discernment, making decisions that honor God and reflect His love to the world.

Sermon Clips
"Now, I just want to challenge you this morning to put on y 'all's thinking hats. Amen. Get in tune with the Spirit. And I want you to, I want to pose this question to you this morning. What's the difference between being Spirit-filled and being Spirit-led? Because you hear that and you're, well, it sounds like it's almost the same thing. Well, if I'm Spirit-filled, we should be Spirit-led, right? But you would be surprised how many Christians don't understand the difference of what it means to be Spirit-filled and also to be Spirit-led." [00:01:05]
"And I'm afraid where Christianity is sitting right now, at least on this side of the world here in America, is that we love to be Spirit-filled. Hallelujah. How many love having a touch from the Holy Ghost? Just feeling the presence of God get all over you, inside you. And I think the other side is that we have to understand that it's very important to be Spirit-filled, but it's also important to be Spirit-led." [00:01:39]
"Now, I want to dig into this a little bit because this is the Apostle Paul talking to Ephesus, talking to the Ephesians. This is your pastor talking in Houston, Texas to the Houstonians here at HGM. That's basically how it writes the letter. Amen. This letter was to be given to everyone. And he starts off here in the first 13 here in the verse. It says, and now you Gentiles, everybody say Gentiles again, have also, I love the word, have also heard the truth." [00:04:14]
"The mark you and I receive, how we're identified with God, when you believe in Christ and all the good news that he saves you is at your mark now. You're marked and you're sealed and you're identified by the Holy Spirit. That's good news, church. That means you receive something when you put your faith in all that Jesus Christ has done. You don't merit. You don't work. You don't labor. You'll never be good enough. None of that counts. The only thing that counts is faith in what Christ has done on Calvary's cross." [00:08:01]
"Because Jesus said narrow is the way. Did he not say narrow? He said narrow. And you know, narrow means that I am the way, Jesus said, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. There's only one way to the Father and that's through his Son. That means if you don't have the Son, watch this, you don't have God. You got to have the Son in order to have the God in order to be filled with the Spirit." [00:09:49]
"Are you hearing me because why the spirit you have to understand you have to have the revelation you have to know when you go into that place look at that thing taste this the spirit of god is with you he's not walking alongside you he's in you i'll say it again he's in you are you hearing me church he's in you and can you grieve the spirit absolutely you can grieve the holy spirit you can quench the holy spirit that's why you feel ucky after whatever you do i don't know what's wrong with me it's because you grieve the spirit amen watch this don't you realize that your body is a temple of the holy spirit who lives in you and was given to you by god you do not belong what is that to yourself oh hey we have to come to that revelation though because god has better we don't belong to ourself we belong to the most high god he says your body does not belong to you it belongs to him now because you were purchased with a high price it was the blood of jesus so you are to surrender yourself to everything that god has called you to do and be in this life we do it by surrendering our entire body presenting our body daily to do what you will with this body lord because how many knows the body affects the spirit some of us don't realize that what you do out here affects what's going on in here the five senses amen this is where sin comes in and it'll start to affect your spirit if you allow sin to come through your five senses who knows what the five senses are touch smell hear see taste there's your five you have a sixth sense come talk to me and i'll i'll explain what that is i got a sixth sense no no you don't have six senses that has to do with the spiritual stuff and you got to be careful where your six senses late amen that's a different message because you're hearing from something but you ain't hearing from the lord we're going to get into some of that in spirit lead here in a minute amen but we're talking about being spirit filled how necessary it is to make sure that we present our bodies what as a living sacrifice it's living sacrifice not just sunday morning i'm giving my body as a living sacrifice and your time you're setting aside to come to church on sunday is that enough it's not enough that's not a christian that's a church goal where they show up on sunday hey i went punched in you feel morally good for the day and then tomorrow comes and you're still the same there's no transformation there amen no i'm getting up and i'm making a conscious effort because this is partnership this is partnership this is partnership this is a relationship this is a relationship this is a relationship this is a relationship this is a relationship this is a relationship" [00:13:15]
"That means, you know what that fight and that war represents? You resisting something. You standing against something. And when you start pushing back, guess what? Your flesh is going to. wig out it's gonna want with it once hallelujah is that good no what happened there he said don't you realize because we're talking about sexual sin don't you realize that your body is the temple of the holy spirit you have to have that revelation who lives in you who lives in you who lives in you and was given to you by god himself amen you do not belong to yourself verse 20 for god bought you with a high price so you must honor god with your body yeah come on church that's good that scripture right there is hate scripture it really is it flies in the face of everything america stands for we're trying to get back but look four years will be here four years will be somewhere else keep your eyes right in the middle you stay in the gospel middle don't worry about what's going on over here and over here eggs i gotta put them on layaway i don't know what's happening right now i gotta get a loan to go to the grocery store now no no no no wait a minute let me back up a little bit the righteous have never been forsaken i've seen their seed begging for bread i belong to you lord i've never seen the righteous i'm righteous i'm in right standings with god doesn't mean i'm self -righteous i'm righteous in the eyes of god because of christ i belong to him i've been adopted into the family there's rights and privileges when you've been adopted into the family you've been identified you've been marked there's certain privileges you have what are those privileges well you only get to see or hear a little bit on sunday it's up to you to go and find out what your rights and privileges are i can't be with you all week are you hearing me church you got to go find i mean it's exciting man i'll be getting this out like lord this is your will i got certain man i got rights and privileges well i'm gonna invest my time in this i know you invest in all the other stuff but you got to invest time in this right here to find out who you are so that your relationship gets stronger and richer with god if you're not in this how is your relationship about it's going to get stronger pastor said it best last sunday she said what is that silence the noise there's so much noise right now in our land fighting for our attention that by the time we get there it's hard to hear what the spirit is saying sometimes like lord i don't understand what you're saying because i've been so much on this my brain's fried like let me show you what" [00:21:02]
"i got caught up in that i was like it's very addicting super addicting you're firing off all kinds of stuff in your brain and you're like five seconds on a tiktok instagram video youtubes i don't know the reels all these things they have coming out clips shorts you know it's like five seconds five seconds five seconds five seconds your brain doesn't even get a chance to digest it's just little clips so when you cut when you come over here and you open this up you're like your brain has to go in reverse i'm giving you scientific stuff here amen this is this is real we've been telling you we've been telling you this since the hotel y 'all remember that hotel i told y 'all we told y 'all we warned you hey lord they never told no we'll tell you the truth that's 2010 2011 before this thing started blowing up amen hey you get into god's presence you father what is that i got to do over there this stuff starts shooting in your brain you're like i can't even connect with god right now it's hard i'm giving you the reason why it's so hard to be spirit led that's gonna bring my next thing but being spirit filled is easy it's easy that you just come and you surrender and god just fills you but being led is quite different you gotta there's got to be a relationship there's got to be a surrender there's got to be a partnership with the holy spirit you got to take time and do your part i don't know why i'm not hearing from the lord okay let me ask how much time are you spending with him if you're not hearing from the lord you may make some wrong decisions this stuff is serious church i'll just go on google no i'll just ask my co -pilot" [00:23:54]
"Let me finish this off and then we'll dig a little bit in it because there's so much in here, church. The world cannot receive him because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him. Don't you know him? He said, but you know him. Watch this. But you know him. Let me slow down. Because he lives with you now and later will be in you. Oh, this is during Jesus' ministry. I want you to hear this, church, because he says he is the Holy Spirit who what? Leads into all what? So he's going to lead you to what? He's going to lead you to what? Oh, I want somebody to get it this morning. He'll lead you into what? The Holy Spirit's job is what? To lead you into what? All truth. Where is that truth found? All truth." [00:28:55]
"It's found in the Word of God. So if the Spirit's going to lead you, He's going to lead you to the Word of God. Amen? The pastor tells you every Sunday I get up here, get into the Word of God. Get into the Bible. Because the Word is life to those who find it. That means you're going to have to go and get it. You're going to have to be deliberate about it. You're going to have to set time aside and prioritize your time in order to get to God's Word. Because by the time two days go by, three days go by, four days go by, five days go by, something starts to happen to your spirit man. Something starts to happen to your flesh. Oh, do you ever feel heavy? Just heavy." [00:29:13]
"Because you're not spending time in God's presence. Come on, church. It's so easy. But it's not easy. Depending on what you're doing. But watch this. He goes, look. He is the Holy Spirit. We're talking about the Holy Ghost. We're talking about being spirit led. Who leads into all what? Truth. I love the word truth because guess what? Something's going to lead you. Something is going to lead you. And when the enemy comes in, he's also an accuser of the brethren. But the Bible says that he's the father of all lies. Right? He knows the Bible better than we do. He's ancient." [00:30:56]
"What I'm saying here, church, is to be spirit led, you've got to be word filled. That's very important. I don't hear quite the way I should when it comes to the spirit leading me. I don't understand what I'm supposed to do about this person. I don't know what I'm supposed to do concerning this job. I don't know what I'm supposed to do when it comes to being married or not being married. Oh, I'm single. It may be something's wrong with me. No, you don't know your Bible. There's nothing wrong with you. You have to know the word of God for yourself. So these things won't come in and appear as an angel of light." [00:31:41]
