Nebuchadnezzar the King to all peoples, nations and languages that dwell in all the earth peace be multiplied to you I thought it good to declare the signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked for me, how great are his signs and how mighty is wonders his kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom and his Dominion is from generation to generation. [00:00:16]

God did something wonderful in Nebuchadnezzar's life and he wanted to tell other people about it, brothers sisters that's just the most basic way that the Christian message gets spread it happens more than anything one person in whom God has done something wonderful telling another person and the work of God spreads that way. [00:01:38]

Nebuchadnezzar had the wisdom and the humility to look at his kingdom and say won't last forever, God's kingdom will last forever in this Nebuchadnezzar understood the most basic lesson in theology ready for the most basic lesson in theology I think you can all remember it - here we go, most basic lesson theology there is a God enthroned in heaven and you are not him. [00:02:31]

Nebuchadnezzar says I'm gonna explain to you how I went from a guy who basically thought he was God to recognizing the true god the one who's enthroned in heaven and has an everlasting Kingdom and for me to explain how that happened let me tell you a story in other words he's not teaching fundamentally or motion I'd say directly a theology lesson he's telling a story. [00:04:16]

Nebuchadnezzar was a very powerful man yet even that happened something that happened during his night of sleep caused him to wake up afraid I can't imagine that there were many things that made Nebuchadnezzar afraid but this dream made him afraid he wakes up his heart's pounding, there's perspiration on his brow he turns around maybe his wife is there with him she says honey what's wrong so I had a dream and it terrified me. [00:06:00]

Nebuchadnezzar is a good storyteller he's kind of building up the suspense we all want to know what was the dream what was it dream is this well first let me tell you what I did with the dream I called in all the wise men all the soothsayers all the Chaldeans I issued a decree bring them all in now by the way let me just make this clear something similar happened in Daniel chapter 2. [00:07:58]

Nebuchadnezzar was so impressed by what he saw of God's work in the life of Daniel and Shadrach Meshach and Abednego but he still had not surrendered his life to God we talked about it last week but again I'll repeat it there's a huge difference between knowing about God and surrendering your life to Him one way to explain is this you can know or you can see you can believe that and you can believe in and there's a difference between two. [00:13:44]

This is a picture of God taking something very big and mighty and strong and knocking it down and oftentimes we like those stories don't we don't you like the stories of God taking somebody who's arrogant and proud and to use a phrase too big for their britches and what does God do I'll cut them down we love it when God knocks down the proud except when it's us. [00:20:02]

God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble and there you are as a mighty tree you're strong you're tall you're flourish, people find shelter under your wings it's an amazing thing there you are but if you're proud in all of that you are actually resisting God and he'll find a way to cut you low God resists the proud but don't miss the other side of that equation he gives grace to the humble. [00:22:04]

True humility isn't denying all your accomplishments I hate it when people do that there's this kind of weird false humility where such as if somebody's a really good I don't know swimmer or piano player you're supposed to go around and aw shucks I guess I'm no good at that like that's what humility that's not humility that's weird, if you're good at something you're good at but listen humility will say first of all I thank God who gave me the giftedness and the drive to pursue excellence in that. [00:22:51]

If Nebuchadnezzar would have humbled himself before God before he wouldn't have had to be cut down, brothers and sisters don't put yourself into a place where God has to cut you down to Humble you that's not how God wants it to work you know what God wants you and I to do he wants me to bring a humble heart before him now and to simply say God would you please work in me and on me true humility not that weird you know fake humility but Gor just just a genuine self-forgetfulness. [00:24:20]

You and I we need to humble ourselves before God so that we never come to the place where God needs to cut us down that's the earnest plea that I have in my heart before God and that I want you to have in your heart before God, God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble let's put ourselves on the humble side of that and receive His grace and not be like Nebuchadnezzar who couldn't see any of this.
