"They thought Jesus was going to be their savior, their king, and they thought that he was going to usher in this new kingdom and lead them to victory, defeating all the forces of evil that had been working against them, including this oppressive Roman empire. But in one word, on Friday, day one of Easter weekend, they are crushed. They're crushed. All their hopes of what Jesus was to be were dashed." [00:08:08] (35 seconds) Edit Clip

"And maybe for some of us here, the moment you had heard and seen that phrase we had hoped, you're like, yeah, I could finish that sentence. I can relate with that. Because you have deep, I had hoped for, experiences in your life. Some of you may say, well, I'd hoped that my parents would have stayed together. I'd hoped that my marriage would have lasted. I'd hoped that we would have kids by now. I'd hoped for my son to be clean and sober, but he's not." [00:10:18] (34 seconds) Edit Clip

"And you know, there's a flip side to this as well. It's not only sometimes do we get the very thing we don't want to get, sometimes we get exactly what we want and it doesn't deliver in the way that we thought we would. It would. You know what I'm talking about? Like, I thought this relationship would make me happy. I thought this new career change, this new job would take me to a place where I'd feel fulfilled in life." "it's like the guy who walks out on his family and he's not coming back to the person it's the one who was diagnosed with that disease and it's not going away the hurt that i was inflicted on by someone that i can't erase it's there i mean if you look at god's word we have many verses that talk about friday day one we have a lot of verses that talk about sunday day three but when it comes to saturday day two there's really truly only one verse that i can kind of pin down and say this fits saturday and here's the verse luke records in chapter 23 it says then they the women who saw the tomb where jesus's body was laid when they then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes but rested on the sabbath in obedience to the commandment" [00:19:52] (60 seconds) Edit Clip

"and i'm sure they do what you and i do when we experience a crushing blow we question everything where do i go now where do i go from here or the deeper questions god why did this happen do you see me do you care could you have stopped this or are you even there to begin with god and you know here's something surprising about god is this is that god actually isn't afraid of your tough questions and my tough questions in fact he invites them and welcomes them about a thousand years before jesus walks on earth there's this collection of prayers written down where um individuals share and give voice to our deepest longings and questions and it's a book called psalms and one of the authors writes these words psalm 22 it says this it says my god my god why have you forsaken me why are you so far from saving me so far from my cries of anguish" [00:21:59] (63 seconds) Edit Clip

"state of crushedness and confused I still have hope even though this isn't what I would have chosen for myself even though I cannot see a way out even though I feel abandoned even though all this wasn't to plan of what I thought it was going to be I'm not going to give up and I'm not going to give in because the story isn't over yet and beneath these words penned by the psalmist you can almost hear God's voice underneath the surface of the text say don't you give up on me not yet it's not over yet I'm working at a level where you can't see what all is going on but don't give up on me I'm not going to leave you alone because this is only day two we're not at day three yet" [00:29:28] (50 seconds) Edit Clip

"Because Jesus is no longer dead He is risen And so everything changes Easter Sunday is the most significant of days for you and for me Resurrected Jesus shows up in the home of some of His first followers And He says this according to Luke He says Jesus asked these followers He says why are you troubled? Why do you doubt? Look at my hands and feet In His eyes touch me and see A ghost doesn't have flesh and bones So He shows them His hands He shows them His feet And it says this It says they still Did not believe it Because of joy And amazement Their belief was still incomplete They had some catching up to do They're beginning to piece all the pieces together But it says here that they begin to experience what? Joy and amazement" [00:36:46] (60 seconds) Edit Clip

"are never what we think that things are never as they appear God is always up to something even in the midst of our crushing days like Friday and even in the midst of our silent days like Saturday because Sunday is coming day three is coming hope is alive because my story isn't over yet your story isn't over yet I can hold on to God who is faithful who is sovereign who is caring who is aware who is listening and is good and so question would you dare trust that God is still writing your story" [00:42:09] (45 seconds) Edit Clip
