True freedom is not found in our heritage, achievements, or the approval of others, but in a living relationship with Jesus Christ. When the Son sets you free, your freedom is not temporary or conditional—it is eternal and unshakeable. This freedom is not based on your performance or your past, but on the finished work of Christ. No matter what chains have held you, Jesus offers a release that is permanent and complete. Walk in the assurance that your freedom is secure in Him, and let this truth shape your identity and your daily walk. [44:59]
John 8:36 (NIV)
"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you have been seeking freedom through your own efforts or achievements? How can you surrender this to Jesus today and trust Him for true, lasting freedom?
In a world overflowing with information, opinions, and distractions, it is easy to become anxious, confused, or overwhelmed by false narratives. Social media and the noise of culture can distort your sense of worth and purpose, but holding on to the teachings of Christ brings clarity and truth. When you fill your mind with God’s Word and live it out, lies lose their power and your thinking is transformed. Begin each day by turning down the world’s noise and turning up the voice of God, letting His truth renew your mind and set you free from anxiety and comparison. [52:47]
John 8:31-32 (NIV)
"To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, 'If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'"
Reflection: What is one negative thought or false belief you have been struggling with? Write it down, and then speak God’s truth over it today.
No matter what your past holds, God’s grace is greater. Like the woman caught in adultery, you may feel weighed down by guilt, shame, or the opinions of others, but Jesus offers you a future and a clean slate. He does not condone sin, but He releases you from its shame and calls you to rise and walk in newness of life. His grace is not just a second chance—it’s another chance, again and again. Let His forgiveness change your heart, your talk, and your walk, and learn to forgive yourself as He has forgiven you. [01:05:26]
John 8:10-11 (NIV)
"Jesus straightened up and asked her, 'Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?' 'No one, sir,' she said. 'Then neither do I condemn you,' Jesus declared. 'Go now and leave your life of sin.'"
Reflection: Is there something from your past that still brings you shame or regret? Ask God to help you accept His forgiveness and take a step forward in freedom today.
Real freedom is not just spiritual—it transforms your whole life. Jesus came not only to set your spirit free, but to set your life on the right course, releasing you from whatever has held you in bondage. This freedom empowers you to worship even when life is hard, to forgive when it hurts, and to hope when things seem hopeless. It is a freedom that gives you purpose and equips you to live boldly, knowing that God is on your side and your life has meaning in Him. [01:10:43]
Galatians 5:1 (NIV)
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."
Reflection: What is one step you can take today to live out the freedom Christ has given you, even if your circumstances haven’t changed yet?
Freedom in Christ is not just something to believe in—it’s something to live out. God calls you to move forward in faith, to act on His word, and to walk in the freedom He has given you. This means letting go of self-pity, fear, and hesitation, and choosing to obey even when it’s hard. As you step out in faith, God meets you with peace, love, and strength for the journey. The door is open—will you walk through it and live like you are truly free? [01:20:19]
James 1:22 (NIV)
"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says."
Reflection: What is one act of obedience God is calling you to take this week as a response to the freedom you have in Christ?
Today, we gathered in gratitude for God’s new mercies and the privilege to worship together, reflecting on the deep meaning of freedom—both in our history and in our faith. As we celebrated our 100 Women in Red, honoring the legacy of Sister Roxy Hughes and the faithful service of our ushers, we were reminded that the spirit of welcome and love is foundational to our church family. We also took time to encourage and uplift one another, recognizing achievements within our congregation and praying for those in need, knowing that God is a comforter and restorer.
Drawing from John 8:36, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed,” we explored the theme “Freed by Faith,” especially in the context of Juneteenth—a time that marks delayed freedom but also points us to the greater liberation found in Christ. While the world offers many versions of freedom—through information, social media, or self-help—true freedom is not found in these things. Instead, it is found in holding on to the teachings of Jesus, allowing His truth to break the chains of false narratives, anxiety, and self-doubt that so often bind us.
We saw how faith in God’s word frees our minds from the noise and lies of the world. By turning down the distractions and turning up the voice of God, we can replace negative thoughts with the truth of who we are in Christ—victorious, loved, and more than conquerors. Faith in His grace frees our hearts from shame and guilt, as illustrated by the woman caught in adultery. Jesus did not condemn her but offered her a future, telling her to “go and sin no more.” In the same way, God’s grace gives us another chance, not just a second chance, and calls us to forgive ourselves as He has forgiven us.
Finally, faith in His power frees our lives. The freedom Jesus gives is not temporary or conditional—it is eternal and transformative. Real freedom is the ability to worship, forgive, and hope even when life is hard. It is living out the truth that, because of Christ, we are no longer bound by our past, our failures, or the opinions of others. The call is to live like we are free, to walk in obedience, and to trust that God is already working on our behalf. As we prayed and interceded for one another, we stood on the promise that, in Christ, we are truly free by faith.
John 8:36 — “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
``Juneteenth is a season that reminds us of a freedom that took far too long to be recognized and even longer to be respected. But while we celebrate freedom from chains and plantations, we also recognize that there's still bondages in hearts, in systems, and yes, even in the spirit. Juneteenth reminds us of what happens when truth is delayed. But the word reminds us of what happens when faith is activated. [00:46:23] (48 seconds)
We are living in times where freedom is advertised but not always applied. Gun violence still haunts our neighborhoods. Systems of injustices still favor some and fail others. Spiritual strongholds, spiritual strongholds, they keep people smiling in public while suffering in private. But can I tell you something? I came this morning just to remind us that faith in Jesus still sets the captive free. [00:47:11] (47 seconds)
If you are bound by doubt, if you are held back by fear, if you are imprisoned by your past or trapped in a system that never wanted to see you rise, this message is for you. You can be freed by faith. [00:48:00] (25 seconds)
Freedom begins with holding on to his word. But not just holding on to his word, you get the freedom by not just hearing it but you have to live it. It breaks the lies that are being told and listen, if somebody tells you a lie long enough, the person telling the lie starts believing it. [00:52:47] (26 seconds)
God wants us to thrive. God wants us to know that he's on our side. God wants us to know that we are already victorious. God wants us to know that you ain't got to worry about the things of this world because the things of this world will pass. But the word of God will remain forever. [00:53:50] (26 seconds)
Faith in his power frees the life. If you look at John chapter 8, he concludes this dialogue. He concludes this dialogue by making a bold declaration. Description that we read this morning says, If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. Indeed. Indeed. You will be free. [01:08:21] (35 seconds)
Real freedom is when you can worship even when life ain't perfect. That's real freedom. Real freedom is when you're able to forgive even when it hurts. Real freedom is something that will give you hope even when it doesn't make sense. That's what real freedom is. [01:10:43] (33 seconds)
