Framed by the Word of God

Hebrews 11:3 opens with that striking line that the worlds were “framed by the word of God,” and the verse puts the invisible right in the forefront of life. The things that can be seen did not come from things that can be seen, so the mountains, skies, oceans, chairs, tables, and bodies all point back to what cannot be seen. The invisible is not less real. The invisible is the source.

The word “worlds” reaches farther than one planet. The word carries the sense of ages, perpetual time, past, present, future, the universe, the heavens, and the earth. Second Timothy warns that a time comes when people chase itching ears, reject truth, and follow myths. The word of God calls God’s people to stay in the frame, receive sound correction, and hold both grace and judgment together.
