#ForgivenessAtTheCross
“Because at the foot of the cross, there's no room for pride and score keeping or revenge. There's only a savior who bears our debt, speaks pardon over sinners, and sends us out as people of the same mercy we have received. In Christ, you are free. So release the debt and trust judgment to God. Speak that truth in love and let that forgiveness that has flowed from the wounds of Jesus flow through your forgiven heart to others as well.”

#ForgiveWithoutApology
“And this might be freeing for some of us who carry, who can carry some pretty deep hurts from people with whom we've never been able to be reconciled with face to face. Perhaps you've been waiting for an apology that's never come. You've been waiting for them to say, I'm sorry. You've been waiting for them to acknowledge what they did, to come clean, to prove they are truly sorry, and then, only then, maybe then, you could forgive them. But that's not how forgiveness works. Forgiveness does not depend upon another person's apology. Forgiveness is the decision empowered by Christ to release the person and their debt into God's hands.”

#ForgivenessPaidInFull
“But that's what Christ has given to us. He didn't excuse our sin, he didn't pretend it didn't matter, he had instead paid the full cost himself on the cross so that sinners who deserve judgment might receive mercy and forgiveness instead. And living in that forgiveness transforms us. Living in that forgiveness is a gift that Christ's church has to offer the world. We don't deny evil, we don't cheapen the words that ignore real wounds, But the astonishing announcement that forgiveness is possible because Jesus has made the payment in full.”

#ForgivenessIsMercy
“We all can find reasons why we shouldn't forgive. We feel justified in our anger, our harsh words, our social media rants, and our condemnation. in one sense, were right. They don't deserve forgiveness. They deserve anger. They deserve judgment. They deserve consequences. But that's exactly the point. Forgiveness is never earned. It is never deserved. It is mercy freely given, no strings attached.”
32s
#ForgiveDontMinimize
“A person has apologized. A person has acknowledged they've sinned against you and before god and you simply said to them, that's okay, not a big deal. It is a big deal. They've sinned against you. What they need is not an excuse for their sin. They need to be released from that sin, released and forgiven. Forgiveness doesn't minimize the wrong. It names the wrong honestly and then releases the debt.”

#CanceledByTheCross
“Now notice this, the debts that people owe us, they may be real. The hurt, especially the pain that has been given and caused against us, may be deep. That wrong that has been done to you, it may have changed the course of your entire life. Yet every follower of Jesus stands before God as one for whom an unforgivable, unpayable debt has been completely canceled through the cross of Christ Jesus.”
38s
#BitternessIsPrison
“we refuse to forgive, the pain does not simply stay with the person who sinned against us. It actually begins to work on us. We replay the offense in our mind over and over again. We rehearse what they said, what they did, what we wish we would have said back to them, and how we wish we might have made them feel because of how they made us feel and all of a sudden we find ourselves in a prison built of bitterness that ends up torturing ourselves long after the original wound was inflicted.”
29s
#ForgivenessIsUnlimited
“Now, Jesus wasn't telling Peter, Peter, for this project you're gonna need more than a word document, you're gonna need an Excel document in order to keep track of this sinning against you. It's not a math problem that Jesus is laying out here, but rather he is showing him that in the kingdom of God, forgiveness is not something that we ration or limit or or that we run out of.”
44s
#JusticeNotHatred
“And to speak of forgiveness in the shadow of a day like that does does not mean that we pretend that that evil was was small. We don't excuse murder or deny the responsibility of those who committed it. Forgiveness never asks us to call darkness light, but does ask us to seek that evil and vengeance don't get the final word. Christians may seek justice, and we protect our neighbor, and we mourn honestly, but we still refuse to let hatred become a master of our heart because we've entrusted final judgment to the god who sees perfectly and judges rightly.”
38s
#DontLetBitternessWin
“See, what happens when we refuse to forgive is we continue to let the sin committed against us to hold power over us. And yes, that person may have hurt us physically, mentally, emotionally, or in some other painful way. But when we cling to the bitterness, when we allow that wound to keep to keep shaping our hearts, We keep reopening the injury like an old festering wound instead of surrendering to the freedom that Christ has won and purchased for us as the children of God.”
31s
#ForgivenessIsAJourney
“Forgiveness is not easy. It is a journey, and it may need to be repeated as old pain resurfaces. Just ask Joseph and his brothers seventeen years apart. Peter's question still is our question too. How often? And Jesus answer is still the same. Keep returning to that mercy that's first been given to you.”
34s
#StopKeepingGrudges
“We are by nature natural born bookkeepers, keeping careful records of every wrong committed against us. There can be even be a strange sense of power in holding on to our grievances to save it for another day when we might bring it back out and it becomes useful to us. We nurse old grudges and old hurts like like like pets, feeding them and and protecting them and forgetting what life was like without them.”
40s
#ConfessAndHeal
“Perhaps part of that healthy way is finding someone to talk to about it. Not to simply rehash it, but to rather relook at it in the light of God and his word. Maybe it's a trusted family friend or or a family member or pastor or counselor. And maybe as you think about this, you realize it's not someone you need to forgive, but maybe it's someone that you need to ask forgiveness from. And they might not even know that they need that from you. But you know it because you've been carrying it.”
38s
#AskGodWhoToForgive
“Maybe that journey starts by simply asking God, who do I need the strength to forgive today? And maybe a name comes to mind, maybe a situation comes to your heart, and maybe the question leads you then to honestly ask yourself, have I acknowledged the hurt? And if I have acknowledged that hurt, have I expressed it in a healthy way? There's plenty of unhealthy ways to do it, have I done it in a healthy way that that leads me towards releasing that forgiveness?”
25s
#ForgivenessIsMercyNotExcuse
“He instead chooses mercy. Friends, one of the mistakes we make when it comes to forgiveness is thinking that in order to forgive someone, that we're actually letting them off the hook or we're actually saying that what they did to us wasn't really bad that bad, that we're almost denying the brokenness that exists.”
