"Uh, there are wars and rumors of war. Uh, people we love and care about are battling addiction or anxiety or depression, right? Families are falling apart, right? There's all of this brokenness in our world. And yet even in the midst of this darkness that we live in, that seems like it's winning sometimes, uh, Isaiah speaks, he speaks hope into this situation." [00:04:06] (26 seconds)

"And this is where the story of the magi come in. The magi, or wise men, as we often refer to them, they come from the east to Jerusalem, the term magi is derived from a Greek word, uh, magoi, which means, uh, essentially a religious priest, not necessarily a Christian, or definitely not a Christian, but a priest of some sort, highly intellectual, who studies things, uh, for the application of life." [00:05:48] (31 seconds)

"And so for us, it's this reminder that we may have all of the answers, and yet it's important that we are moved to action, to show that ultimately God is who he is and worthy of our praise. And so the king, responded with fear. The religious leaders responded with indifference. And thankfully, that didn't deter the Magi from continuing their journey." [00:11:59] (29 seconds)

"And as they step into the house, their response is the appropriate and fitting response to, the entering into the presence of a king, of a deity, divinity, and they fall down and they bow down and worship him, right? They lose their dignity. They lose their status. They submit and surrender in that moment. They bow down, they fall face down and worship him." [00:13:21] (25 seconds)

"And after they worship him, they open up their treasures and they presented him with gifts. And now each gift, a spirit, a spirit, a spirit, a spirit, a spirit, a spirit, a spirit, a spirit, a spirit, speaks to a different part of Jesus' identity and his mission. Each gift tells a story. Gold, the traditional gift for royalty, says Jesus is king, worthy of our loyalty. He's worthy of our best." [00:13:55] (27 seconds)

"And so for us, it's this reminder that as we encounter Jesus, as we enter into his presence, that we worship him, we praise him, not just with, with our treasures, but with our hearts, with our minds surrendered fully to him, our time, our trust, our devotion. We give him our best." [00:14:54] (26 seconds)

"Reminds me of a story. Now, this is not my story. It's one that I found this week as I was preparing for this, just full disclosure. But it's the story of a man who went hiking in the woods, and he kind of got off the path. He got lost, and he couldn't find his way home. And this darkness crept in. He didn't know where to go, and he was starting to lose hope." [00:17:35] (26 seconds)
