“Calling doesn't come from man. Calling comes from God. Calling comes from creator to creation. It comes from our heavenly father to his sons and daughters. And with calling comes gifts. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. Calling comes with gifts to fulfill and answer the calling that we all receive. His job is to call. Our job is to answer. We don't create the calling. We simply receive the calling. We don't do the calling. Only God does. We simply do the answering to that call.”
“Our career emerges from our calling. Our calling doesn't emerge from our career. Our career follows our calling.”
“When we see the one that's calling us to follow him, we can walk away knowing that he will take care of the rest. He walks away from his career to ultimately receive his calling. And this is the calling for every human on planet earth. Luke 5 verse 27. Follow me. This is the calling of Jesus. It's not a calling to do something. It's not a calling to be someone. It's a calling to follow Jesus. The person. The God. The man. Jesus himself.”
“This calling of Jesus is a calling to be with Jesus. It's a calling to eventually become like Jesus. And then we grow to the place where we actually do what Jesus did. This is the calling for all of us. As we follow Jesus, we become like Jesus. This is every human's first calling. It's an invitation into close relationship with God. It's intimacy. It's friendship. It's trusted companionship. It's deep and rich relationship.”
“Calling is a series of faithfulness to assignments given to us by Jesus. We get one call to him. And then from that call come many calls. Many many little assignments for seasons of our life. See the callings are a result of accepting the call to follow Jesus.”
“Stop following money. Stop following upward mobility. Stop following safety. Stop following and comfort and even fear. And start following Jesus. Why? Because he's the only one worth following. Everything else and everyone else will make you feel unfulfilled and empty. Only Jesus can satisfy.”
“We live in a time and a place where we worship career. Career is the idol that holds us by the throat and chokes the life out of us. Because we think in career we will be validated. In career we will prove our self. In career we will show everybody that we are worthy of love. But guess what. Careers come and go. Whole industries and careers die. But Jesus is alive and well. And he continues to invite us to follow him. Because there is no one better to follow.”
“God wants you to follow Jesus and become like Jesus because he knows that will be the best life that any human could ever live. That's why he will not let you settle for career. Because career will over promise and under deliver. But when we follow Jesus, we get Jesus. That is so much better than a retirement package or a pension. Following Jesus, we get Jesus. There is nothing better than that.”
“Peter was called to Jesus from his career. But then sadly, he walked away from Jesus to return to his career. Then Jesus called him again to return to Jesus. And from there, he fully received his calling and followed Jesus for the rest of his days.”
“Your calling is going to be different than Peter's calling. And you are only going to get that calling as you receive the calling of Jesus to come close to Jesus. You know families have callings. People have callings. Family have callings.”
“There is a call of God on individuals. People. There is callings on families. There is also callings on churches. Our calling as a church, if you do not know it by now, it is prayer. God is using us as the tip of the spear to pioneer prayer all over the bay.”
“Revival is simply the church returning to her first love. We do not do this because we have to. We do this because we want to. Do this because like Peter, we have seen him. We have met him and I have learned. He is really hard to say no to. It is hard to say no to Jesus. Honestly. It is exhausting to say no to Jesus. Do yourself a favor. Do not say no to Jesus. You do not know who you are saying no to.”
“Calling is a customized life assignment that will bring out the best in you and give the most of you to the world. Jesus says, do not save up for yourself, but actually give your life away. You want to save your life? Give it away. You try to keep your life, you'll lose it. You've got to lose your life. You've got to give it away. How do we give our life away? We follow Jesus. The one who gave it all, we follow him, and he teaches us how to give our life away to others.”
“Careers end. Callings live forever. Careers are temporary. Callings are eternal. Careers over-promised and under-delivered. Callings bless and fulfill. Careers come and go. Callings flow.”
“You don't have to find your calling, guys. Your identity and your calling are like one and the same. As you follow Jesus, it'll just begin to make sense. It'll naturally flow out of you. It'll just come forth. It'll be. It'll be effortless. It'll be easy. It won't be hard. It won't be white-knuckling. It won't be any of those things. It'll just naturally flow out of you.”
“When you go to your job tomorrow morning, you don't turn off your calling. Oh, no, no, my calling's not allowed here. No, it is. Because your calling is to Jesus. You bring Jesus everywhere. You don't lock Jesus in your Bible at home. You don't keep him on your Bible app, on lock. No, no, no, no. You bring Jesus everywhere. And as you become more like Jesus, you can't shut that shine off, that radiance off, that glow off. You just do. It just flows out of you. This is the beauty of following Jesus.”
“The first part of my faith journey was really bloody and hard because I had this brilliant idea that I would not let go of. And the idea was, Jesus, follow me. It'll be great. I promise you'll love it. And he's like, that's going to be really hard. There's going to be a lot of bruises, a lot of pain, a lot of blood. I don't think you really want me to follow you. I don't think that's going to go well for you. I've got a better idea. It's called follow me. I know where we're going. I can see the end from the beginning. I've got some brilliant surprises along the way that are going to blow your mind. I'm going to do things in you and through you that you thought you were never capable of. That we're going to have an incredible life.”
“When we see him, this is our vision as a church, beholding him. Beholding him, we become like him. When we see him for who he truly is. We follow him even deeper and become like him. And this is the invitation. It's the most obvious invitation today. The invitation for every single person in the room and watching online. It's really easy. Follow me. Not me. Him. Follow Jesus. That's the invitation that he's giving every human every day. Follow me.”
“Some of us, we think we're a Christian because we go to church. I can set foot in a garage. That does not make me a car. Coming to church does not make you a Christian. The invitation is not to become a Christian. The invitation is to follow Jesus.”
“What he wants more than anything else is you. He wants you. And he wants you to follow him. Not for what he can get from you. He needs nothing from you. But for everything that he can give you and bless you with.”
