#HeartLedByChrist
“``But the better question is, who has been shaping my been shaped by prayer? Has it been shaped by worship? Has it been shaped by discernment, your discernment, but the discernment of others. You know, sometimes when we're trying to to discover our path, you know, finding other people that we trust that have been in the faith longer than we have. You know, say, I know god. I feel god's leading me in this. Could you help me with this? Does this sound like it's aligned with what god would have for me? And so, you know, as we get to this series, you know, I I appreciate the great feedback I've got on this. Follow your heart. Follow your heart. But follow your heart as Christ leads your heart. In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit. Thanks be to god.”

#RedeemedHearts
“there's this idea that the truth is in us somewhere that is all down there already, and we just need to get it out and follow your heart. And so it it is it is ignoring, you know, something that that Jesus didn't come simply to affirm our hearts. He came to redeem them. He came to transform them. He he came to make them new. He came to get them aligned with god's will. And so just bearing in that mind, I do wanna start with where this phrase, I think, gets it right because I I do think there's some some good parts about, following your heart.”

#AlignDesiresWithGod
“God's gonna give me anything that I have. And in my heart, I really want this brand new Mercedes. That's what's in my heart. Or, you know, I want this to happen or that to happen. You know, God's gonna give me the desires of your heart. But there is an assumption here that the person is delighting themselves in the Lord. They're seeking God through scripture and prayer and that sort of things, and then it gets aligned to it. And then what our desires are are the same that god has for us. Delight yourself in the lord, and he will give you desires of your heart, which is really what we're talking about is discernment.”

#FollowChristNotCulture
“you know, we hear, you know, the popular culture today saying things were like, you know, you just you need to follow your you follow your instincts, follow yourself. Where the bible is teaching us, we need to follow Christ and trust in him. You know, it says, you know, we need to put our ourselves first. That may be culture, you know, before all things. You know, what are what are my needs? What am I gonna put before that? Where the bible tells us about being servants. It means taking up our cross and following Christ. And so it does, you know, matter theologically about how what the shape of our hearts are and our condition of our hearts may be.”

#TrustGodNotSelf
“Entrust in the lord with all your heart. Look at the assumptions that this has in there. Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, submit to him, and he will make your path straight. And, again, this is this is aligning ourselves with god as we follow god. This is aligning us with ourselves with our path. And so the god's god's heart, god's will, god's wishes for our life, you know, they get aligned with us so that we can trace truth that that voice inside us, the holy spirit, you know, giving us discernment in things. And so it, you know, it is very important. And so”

#SelfRuleLeadsToChaos
“Another scripture I think about, is there's a actually, this is repeated a couple of times in in Judges, but it said in those days, Israel had no king and everyone did as they saw fit. And so everyone just following their heart and everyone doing as they see fit is just gonna lead to chaos. And if you've ever read the book of Judges, it has catastrophic events where everybody just doing as they they see fit.”

#SpeakTruthInLove
“You know? And I brace myself because I know what's gonna come next is something very rude and unkind. Right? You've heard that experience. Yeah. I'm just speaking my truth. You know? You can speak the truth in love. You know? But people will say, I'm just living my truth and speaking my truth. And, again, with this phrase, we want honesty. We want upfrontness, but we also want godliness. We wanna be following in the steps of Christ and how, you know, we can speak truth, and we can be honest, but we do it in love. It doesn't mean that, you know, we we get a pass on that. I people say that sometimes. I think they they they wanna be completely, you know, immune from any criticism because they're just speaking their truth.”

#HeartsCanMislead
“it can go off the tracks a little bit because I don't know about your heart, but sometimes in my heart, there's some pretty terrible things. Right? You know, I have, you know, I have anger sometimes in my heart. I have, you know, I have, you know, resentment sometimes in my heart. This this is assuming that your heart, you know, is pure and your heart is right. And so, you know, sometimes we can't follow our hearts because our hearts are gonna lead us some other way.”
