#LovedThenTransformed
“``Paul knew everything that was going on. He knew everything that they were doing wrong. He knows about the divisions. He knows about the immorality. He he knows about their pride. He knows about their self centeredness. He knows about all of that. But yet before addressing any of those things, Paul reminds them who they are. They are sanctified, they are called, and they are holy. Why does Paul do that? Paul does that because identity always comes before instruction. God says, I love you. He doesn't say get your life together first and then I'll love you. God says, I love you. Now let me transform you. That's the gospel. That's the good news. I love you. Now let me transform transform you.”

#BoughtToReflect
“These words, you are not your own. You were bought with a price. They they kinda butt heads with modern culture. You are not yours, you were bought with a price. Our culture says to us, my life belongs to me. Paul says no. If you belong to Christ, your life belongs to him. That's not oppressing the people, that's redeeming the people. Imagine buying a a neglected house. You invest time, money, energy, care, you restore that, you build it back up. That house now reflects the vision of its owner. Paul says that Jesus purchased us with his blood. We belong to him. Therefore, holiness isn't just about rules. It's about a relationship. It's about reflecting the one who redeemed us by his blood on the cross.”

#ResurrectionHope
“And because Christ lives, everything changes. Death is not the end. Sin doesn't have the final word. Suffering isn't meaningless. Hope is not some wishful thinking. Because Jesus lives, we have hope. Every funeral, every hospital room, every graveside service, every moment of grief, and in those moments, the resurrection speaks and it says, death does not win. Christ wins. That's why Paul concludes this letter by encouraging to stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord.”

#CalledAndCommissioned
“Some of us here need to remember that we're called. If that's you, know that God's grace is greater than your failures. Some of us need correction, not because God is angry with you, but because God loves you. And all of us are commissioned for God's purpose in some way. God has placed us where we are for a reason. In our homes, in our workplaces, in our our communities, in our church, in Japan, God has placed us there for a purpose. And wherever we're at, we're called to represent Christ. So stand firm. Love deeply, walk faithfully, pursue holiness, stay united, trust the cross, and live in resurrection hope. Because of Christ, we've been called by grace. We've been corrected by love, and we're commissioned for his glory. And, church, god's work in your life is not done yet.”

#KingdomVsWorld
“The cross reminds us that our salvation is not earned, it's received. The world says promote yourself. Jesus says, no, deny yourself. The world says climb higher. Jesus says, stoop lower and serve. The world says, take care of yourself first. Jesus says, love your neighbor. You see, the kingdom of God operates differently than the world. And each and every day, we have to decide which voice we're gonna follow. The voice of Jesus or the temptations and the voice of the world.”

#LoveMeasuresMaturity
“It's kinda like doing all of those things, giving, teaching bible studies, giving generously. Those things don't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car. Kinda what Paul is saying in my words. See, Christian maturity is not measured by giftedness. It's measured by love. Paul says, love is patient, love is kind, love is not self seeking. Now that one challenges me every time I read it. Love is not self seeking. You see, selfishness has a a sneaky way of hiding in our hearts. But biblical love, it shifts our focus. It asks, how can I serve? How can I encourage others? How can I build someone up? See, the most mature believer in this room the most mature believer in this room is not necessarily the one who knows the most. It's the one who loves the most.”

#LoveOverGifts
“See, the Corinthians loved spiritual gifts. They absolutely loved them. You know why they loved them? Because they were recognized. They loved those impressive experiences. They loved recognition. But Paul says somewhere in chapter 13, if I have not love, I'm nothing. If I have not love, I'm nothing. Nothing. Think about how radical that statement is. If I have not love, I am nothing. You can preach powerful sermons. You can lead all kinds of ministries. You can teach bible studies. You can give very generously. You can pray eloquently and still miss the heart of god.”

#GodUsesImperfect
“That's not how it is. It wasn't then, and it's not now. Corinthians, conflict, pride, immorality, spiritual immaturity, theological misunderstanding, all that stuff going on, but Paul never gave up on them. Why did Paul not just say, you guys are a mess. I'm out of here. Paul never gave up on them, and he never gave up on them because God never gave up on them. And that truth matters. It matters to us because some of us walk into church carrying a whole disappointment. Disappointment with ourselves, disappointment with with others, disappointment with the church. And by church, I mean, not one particular church, not a denomination. The church is the gathered people. We walk into church disappointed with the church. And first Corinthians remind us that that god specializes in working through imperfect people.”
