[01:31]2. “Thus says the Lord of hosts: These people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the Lord.”
[01:31]3. Then the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet,
[01:31]4. “Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins?
[01:31]5. Now, therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways.
[01:31]6. You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough. You drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes.
[01:31]7. Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways.
[01:31]8. Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that I may take pleasure in it and that I may be glorified, says the Lord.
[05:36]9. You looked for much, and behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why? declares the Lord of hosts. Because of my house that lies in ruins, while each of you busies himself with his own house.
[01:31]10. Therefore the heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has withheld its produce.
[01:31]11. And I have called for a drought on the land and the hills, on the grain, the new wine, the oil, on what the ground brings forth, on man and beast, and on all their labors.”
[01:31]12. Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him. And the people feared the Lord.
[03:18]13. Then Haggai, the messenger of the Lord, spoke to the people with the Lord's message, “I am with you, declares the Lord.”
[03:18]14. And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people.
[03:18]15. And they came and worked on the house of the Lord of hosts, their God, on the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
[03:18]1 Corinthians 3:10–1510. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it.
[10:57]11. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
[10:57]12. Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw—
[10:57]13. each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.

[10:57]15. If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

[33:00]11. And before them stood seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan standing among them. Each had his censer in his hand, and the smoke of the cloud of incense went up.
[33:00]12. Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each in his room of pictures? For they say, ‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.’”

- What is the order of the people’s response in Haggai 1:12–15, and what does God say and do after they obey? [03:18]

- What details in Ezekiel’s “room of pictures” show that hidden worship was taking place, even though the elders believed God did not see them? [33:00]
Interpretation questions- Why does God connect the people’s distracted priorities with the emptiness of their harvest, food, clothing, and wages in Haggai 1? What does this reveal about the danger of becoming busy with personal comfort while neglecting God’s presence?
- Haggai says that the people feared the Lord, and then they obeyed. How is the fear of the Lord different from panic or shame, and why does it lead to a willing response? [05:03]
- Paul says that Jesus Christ is the only foundation, while also warning believers to take care how they build. How does this protect a believer from both “Jesus plus” performance and “Jesus minus” obedience without repentance? [17:25]

Application questions- Where has comfort, busyness, entertainment, financial pressure, or simple delay pushed attention to God into the background? What would it look like to “consider your ways” honestly this week? [37:58]
- God’s invitation to rebuild was not meant to produce pressure, but His pleasure and glory. What changes when obedience is driven by delight in God rather than fear of failing Him? [42:35]
- Which part of the inner structure most needs strengthening right now: Scripture, prayer, worship, generous giving, or gathering with other believers? What is one small and concrete way to begin building there? [27:57]
- Scripture becomes part of the structure when it is pondered, remembered, and brought back into daily life. Is there one verse or short passage that could be carried through the week and practiced in a real situation? [21:13]
- Prayer is a meeting and a two-way conversation, not merely a list of needs. What might it look like to make space to ask God, “What is on Your heart for me today?” and then listen? [22:11]
- What pictures, thoughts, habits, fears, or desires tend to fill the hidden “room of pictures”? Is there anything that needs to be brought into the light, removed from the walls, or replaced with what is true and life-giving? [32:20]
- God’s presence is meant to engage mind, heart, and spirit together. Which of those areas tends to be neglected, and how could there be room for God to meet that area more fully? [36:10]
