Finding Strength and Freedom in Christ Alone
Summary
In today's message, we explored the profound truth that our strength and freedom are found solely in Jesus Christ. We began by acknowledging the challenges and powers that often seem overwhelming, but we were reminded that there is one stronger than any adversary—Jesus, who has the power to bind and plunder our enemies. Our own strength is insufficient; true power and freedom come only through Him. This is a call to remember that the Son has set us free, and we are truly free indeed.
We delved into Paul's letter to the Colossians, where he encourages the church to remain steadfast amidst false teachings. Paul, writing from prison, exemplifies endurance and perseverance, urging us to hold firm to the gospel's truth. He emphasizes the importance of being filled with the knowledge of God's will, spiritual wisdom, and understanding, which enables us to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord. This knowledge anchors us, especially when emotions and hardships threaten to drift us away from our faith.
The message also highlighted the significance of Christ's supremacy. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, and the head of the church. His authority and power are unmatched, and He holds all things together. This truth reassures us that if Christ can sustain the universe, He can certainly sustain us in our trials.
Furthermore, we were reminded of the beauty of the gospel: Christ's sacrificial love, His rescue from the domain of darkness, and our transfer into His kingdom. This transformation is not just a change in status but a continual process of sanctification, where Christ's forgiveness follows us until we are glorified.
Finally, the call to action was clear: to make Christ first in our lives, to endure in faith, and to lean on His strength rather than our own. The gospel compels us to gratitude and steadfastness, knowing that our hope is secure in Him.

Day 1: True Liberation Through Christ's Power
In a world filled with challenges and adversaries, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the forces that seek to bind us. However, true strength and freedom are found not in our own abilities but in Jesus Christ. He is the one who sets us free from the powers that seek to hold us captive. Jesus, who has the power to bind and plunder our enemies, offers us true liberation and the power to overcome any adversary. This freedom is not just a temporary relief but a profound and lasting liberation that transforms our lives. As we embrace this truth, we are called to live in the freedom that Christ provides, knowing that He is stronger than any force that opposes us. [45:18]
"For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery." (Galatians 5:1, ESV)
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you feel bound or oppressed? How can you invite Jesus into that area to experience His liberating power today?
Day 2: Anchored in Spiritual Wisdom
In the face of false teachings and the emotional storms of life, it is crucial to be anchored in the knowledge of God's will and spiritual wisdom. This knowledge is not merely intellectual but deeply spiritual, enabling us to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord. Paul, writing to the Colossians, emphasizes the importance of being filled with this knowledge to remain steadfast in faith. When emotions and hardships threaten to drift us away, it is this spiritual wisdom that keeps us grounded. By seeking God's will and understanding, we can navigate the complexities of life with confidence and faithfulness. [57:45]
"And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ." (Philippians 1:9-10, ESV)
Reflection: In what ways can you actively seek to grow in the knowledge of God's will this week? How might this knowledge help you remain steadfast in your faith during challenging times?
Day 3: Christ's Unmatched Authority
The supremacy of Christ is a profound truth that reassures us of His unmatched authority and power. Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, and the head of the church. His authority is not just a theological concept but a reality that impacts our daily lives. If Christ can sustain the universe, He can certainly sustain us in our trials. This truth invites us to trust in His power and authority, knowing that He holds all things together. In our moments of doubt and struggle, we can find comfort in the knowledge that Christ's authority is greater than any challenge we face. [01:44:11]
"He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power." (Hebrews 1:3, ESV)
Reflection: How does acknowledging Christ's authority change the way you approach your current challenges? What steps can you take to trust in His sustaining power today?
Day 4: The Transformative Power of the Gospel
The beauty of the gospel lies in Christ's sacrificial love and His rescue from the domain of darkness. This transformation is not just a change in status but a continual process of sanctification, where Christ's forgiveness follows us until we are glorified. The gospel is a profound truth that transforms us from the inside out, inviting us into a new way of living. As we embrace this transformation, we are called to live in the light of Christ's kingdom, continually being shaped and molded by His love and grace. This ongoing process of sanctification is a journey of becoming more like Christ, reflecting His love and forgiveness in our daily lives. [01:27:56]
"And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit." (2 Corinthians 3:18, ESV)
Reflection: In what ways have you experienced the transformative power of the gospel in your life? How can you actively participate in the process of sanctification this week?
Day 5: Enduring in Faith Through Christ's Strength
We are called to make Christ first in our lives, to endure in faith, and to lean on His strength rather than our own. The gospel compels us to gratitude and steadfastness, knowing that our hope is secure in Him. Our endurance is not dependent on our strength but on His power to keep us. In times of trial and difficulty, it is Christ's strength that sustains us, enabling us to persevere with hope and faith. By prioritizing Christ in our lives, we can endure the challenges we face, confident in the knowledge that He is with us every step of the way. [01:55:20]
"May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light." (Colossians 1:11-12, ESV)
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you need to rely more on Christ's strength rather than your own? How can you make Christ first in your life today to endure in faith?
Quotes
1. "Our goal here is the holistic transformation of people and communities, and so I pray that from this word there will be transformation that takes place in the heart of God's people. And if you're hearing, you don't know the Lord. I'm praying that a work will be done in your heart today and that you will make a confession of faith in Christ Jesus. For today, when you hear his voice, do not harden. In your heart. Turn with me to the book of Colossians chapter 1 as we continue in the last installment of this mini-series called Steadfast, a series that was put together to help to encourage us to remain firm and established in our walk despite whatever it is that we may be up against, regardless of what we may be facing." [00:49:43] (41 seconds)
2. "And Paul is writing this letter to encourage them that amidst false teaching, stand firm in the truth. Amidst people who are saying that Christ isn't Lord, that Christ isn't supreme, that you got to do all of this external asceticism and all of these things to have a relationship with the Lord. He says, hold firm to what it is that you've heard from us. And here's the thing, man. That's interesting about Paul and his letter. Y 'all know Paul is writing this letter from where? He's in jail himself." [00:51:07] (38 seconds)
3. "But Paul is like, I am in jail telling you to press because I too myself am pressing. And as your pastor, I want you guys to understand that I am not sitting up here telling you yet again to keep fighting while I go home to spiritual peace and luxury. I go home to the same stuff y 'all go home to. I go home to the same internal demons that I had to battle within myself. I go home to the same flesh that is trying to tempt me away from my faith in Christ. I go home to the same problems in spiritual warfare that you go home to, and I have to press." [00:52:47] (42 seconds)
4. "And so I'm not telling you to press, because I don't get it. I'm telling you to press, because that's the only thing we can do. Ooh. We don't really got another option in this thing. It's one thing, press or lake of fire, pick one. God ain't give us many options here. He said, I'm going to make it real easy. Ain't no all of the above. It is A and B. Which one you want? Me or lake of fire? And every time I weigh it, I say, I'm going to press." [00:54:28] (35 seconds)
5. "And as Paul begins to encourage the church to press into the truths of the gospel amongst false teaching, I find it interesting that the first thing that he tells us to do, in verse 9, is he says, I'm praying from the day I heard about it, and I have not ceased praying that you will, what, be filled with the knowledge of his will, and with all spiritual wisdom and understanding. So that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord to please him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God." [00:56:04] (40 seconds)
6. "But when we talk about what it means to fight, to follow him, your emotions do not dictate what that looks like or what it should look like, right? Instead, the information that God has given us when he revealed his truths, his will to us through his word, that is what we are to know in order to know how to walk in order to please him. And so there's a time where we can be emotional. There's a time where we can operate in our feelings. However, if you want to be firm, in the faith, amongst false teachings and attacks, it is not going to happen because you just felt a certain type of way." [00:58:31] (44 seconds)
7. "And if you don't have knowledge to undergird or to reinforce those emotions, you will. That's why when most of us go through stuff, we had these thoughts about if God love us, it might be fleeting, but it comes. At some point in that struggle, you like, man, God, you care about me and you might take your captive right away, but it comes. Why? Because we emotional, but feelings fade with pain. And so you can feel all enthusiastic about the Lord and loving the Lord and all of that. But when pain starts to hit you, those feelings will fade." [01:02:22] (36 seconds)
8. "But knowledge is critical because when the gospel is not cognitively understood, false teachers can cause wavering to happen because belief lacks coherence. It's interesting. The first Corinthians 15 one through two, one through two, a Paul Paul makes this assertion and he says something really cool. He says, now I make known to you brothers and sisters, the gospel, which I preached to you, which you also received and which you also stand by, which you also have been saved. And then here's our clause. If right, you firmly, you hold firmly to the word which I preached to you. And then he says this, unless you. Believed in vain." [01:03:04] (30 seconds)
9. "The power of God to keep us is through the deposit of God, the spirit dwelling in us. Remember in Romans 8, 4, it says the flesh, what the law was unable to do because of the flesh, right? In the spirit, we're not able to fulfill the righteous requirements of the law, right? And then in 2 Peter 1, 3, Peter says that the spirit is the power of godliness. In other words, the Holy Spirit gives us what we need in order to stay." [01:20:10] (33 seconds)
10. "And so when I talk about perseverance of the saints, I'm not saying do whatever you want to do. You're good because you said a prayer. I'm saying if that's the way you think, you've already proven not to be a follower of Christ. Anybody that takes. The grace of God, the teachings of endurance and your mind goes so you can then do whatever you want. You've already showed me that you're not a follower of Christ because followers of Christ do not respond to his gracious gift that way. We respond with the desire to do his will. We respond with a desire to follow him." [01:21:24] (29 seconds)
