Finding Solitude: Connecting with God Amidst Chaos
Summary
In my sermon, I discussed the importance of solitude and quiet time in our spiritual lives, drawing from the Book of Mark, Chapter 1, verses 35 through 39. I emphasized that in our fast-paced, distraction-filled world, we often neglect the most crucial aspect of our spiritual lives - spending time with God. I highlighted that our busyness, distractions, and the pace of life are pulling us away from our relationship with God. I also stressed the importance of spending time with Jesus to truly follow him, comparing it to cultivating a relationship with a loved one. I encouraged the congregation to find a space where they can be in the presence of Jesus, away from their own thoughts and distractions. I concluded by praying for the congregation, asking God to help us find Him who charges us and prepares us for what's ahead.
Key Takeaways:
- We live in a world that is busier, louder, and crazier than ever, and we must create an environment for attention and connection to God, which takes place in the quiet and solitude. [ 20:54]
- We can't follow Jesus if we're not spending time with Jesus. Our love for Him should not be just words but should be practiced. [ 22:14]
- We need to be still and quiet before God, and if we don't start our day spending time with Him, we will feel disconnected. [ 33:01]
- There's a difference between being alone and being in solitude. We often turn toward noise and chaos out of fear, to the detriment of our mental, emotional, and physical selves. [ 12:20]
- Jesus lived in the chaos and the loudness and the busyness but he always made time to go away to be quiet and isolated so that in the silence he could be with his father. [ 13:44]

Devotional
Day 1: The Power of Quiet Time
The world is busier, louder, and crazier than it's ever been. To connect with God, we must create an environment for attention and connection to Him, which takes place in the quiet and solitude. It's time to bring back the quiet time, a dedicated period for being alone with God, and watch your life change. [24:44]
Psalm 46:10 - "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."
Reflection: How can you incorporate a dedicated quiet time into your daily routine?
Day 2: The Importance of Starting Your Day with God
There's something significant about how we start our day. Jesus, despite his busy schedule, made time to be with God in the morning. This practice recharged him for the day. Starting your day with God can form the rest of it. [23:59]
Psalm 5:3 - "In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly."
Reflection: How can you make time to be with God in the morning?
Day 3: The Challenge of Silence
Being silent and alone with God is not natural for everyone. It requires work and allowing the Holy Spirit to work in us. It's about submitting to God's will, not our own. [05:30]
1 Kings 19:12 - "After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper."
Reflection: What challenges do you face when trying to be silent and alone with God?
Day 4: The Necessity of Spending Time with Jesus
You can't follow Jesus if you're not spending time with Him. You can't know what Jesus is about if you don't ever talk to Him or spend time with Him. It's about cultivating a relationship with Him. [22:45]
John 15:4 - "Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me."
Reflection: How can you cultivate a deeper relationship with Jesus?
Day 5: The Impact of Silence and Solitude
If we can be present and silent before Jesus, it can change not only our hearts and lives but also our community. Everything we do flows out of our connection to Him. [33:40]
Matthew 6:6 - "But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
Reflection: How can your silence and solitude impact your community?
