Finding Power and Peace at Jesus' Feet

Summary

### Summary

Good morning, everyone. Happy Mother's Day! Today, we gather to celebrate and honor mothers, but I recognize that this day brings a mix of emotions for many. Some of you are grieving the loss of your mothers, some are struggling with the desire to become a mother, and others are dealing with the pain of a recent divorce or the loss of a child. Yet, there are also those who are simply grateful for the wonderful mothers they have had. My own mother was a powerful, yet soft-spoken woman who held our family together. She was the one who attended all my ballgames and learned football just to support me. I miss her dearly and wish I could call her today.

Today, I want to talk about the relationship between power and peace through the lens of Jesus. In the world, power and peace often seem like opposites, but in Jesus, they come hand in glove. We see this in the stories of Jesus, where His power brings peace. For instance, in Mark chapter 4, Jesus calms a storm on the Sea of Galilee. The disciples are terrified, thinking they will drown, but Jesus, asleep in the boat, wakes up and commands the storm to be still. The disciples are amazed, and Jesus questions their faith. This story illustrates how Jesus' power can bring peace even in the midst of chaos.

Moving to Mark chapter 5, we see Jesus' power over psychological trauma. A man possessed by a legion of demons meets Jesus. This man is tormented, living among tombs, and unable to be restrained even with chains. When he sees Jesus, he bows down, recognizing Jesus' authority. Jesus commands the demons to leave the man and enter a herd of pigs, which then drown in the lake. The man is restored to sanity, and the people are amazed but also afraid. This story shows that Jesus' power can bring peace to even the most tormented souls.

Next, we see Jesus' power over disease. A woman who has been suffering from constant bleeding for 12 years touches Jesus' robe, believing that this will heal her. Jesus feels the power leave Him and asks who touched Him. The woman, trembling, admits it was her. Jesus tells her that her faith has healed her and to go in peace. This story highlights that faith in Jesus' power can bring healing and peace.

Finally, we see Jesus' power over death. Jairus, a synagogue leader, pleads with Jesus to heal his dying daughter. On the way to Jairus' house, Jesus is delayed by the woman with the bleeding issue. During this delay, Jairus' daughter dies. Jesus tells Jairus to have faith and continues to his house. He takes the girl by the hand and tells her to get up, and she is restored to life. This story demonstrates that Jesus' power can conquer even death, bringing ultimate peace.

Throughout these stories, we see a common theme: falling at the feet of Jesus. Whether it's the disciples in the boat, the demon-possessed man, the woman with the bleeding issue, or Jairus, each one finds peace and power by humbling themselves before Jesus. This is a powerful reminder that we must do the same. When we fall at Jesus' feet, we find the peace and power we need to navigate the storms, traumas, diseases, and even death in our lives.

As we conclude, remember that Jesus doesn't promise a life free from problems. Instead, He promises to walk with us through them, bringing His power and peace. So, let's fall at His feet today and experience the transformative power and peace that only He can provide.

1. "If you'll let Him, this Jesus will go before you and make a way and make your crooked path straight. That's what He does. If you'll let Him, this Jesus will go with you and bring you peace and joy, fulfillment and contentment. Because He is always good and you are always loved. Man, when the world gets weird, trauma and death and disease and divorce and destruction happen all around us, you feel like it's you against the universe. That Jesus will come along behind you and pick you up. But watch out, y'all. He's not gonna walk you around the mess. He's gonna walk you through the middle of it, only to set you down victoriously on your two feet and wipe away your tears and kiss you on the forehead." 2. "The problem is, though, most of us really want Jesus to keep us from getting in a mess, but the problem is, the Bible never, ever teaches that. I mean, the Bible never says, trust Jesus, and you're never going to have a problem. The Bible's clear about this: trust Jesus, and He'll walk through the problem with you. Right? I mean, this is a big difference in the world." [08:13](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip | Download vertical captioned clip)

3. "When you fall at the feet of Jesus, you understand what Paul was saying when he said, all things will work together for the good to those that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose. Because if you're looking for peace and for power, the first thing you got to do is follow His feet. Because at the feet of Jesus is where you find peace and where you find power, over nature, over trauma, over disease, over death, over divorce, over being broke, over your kids going off the rails, over your parents aging, and trying to figure out what on earth do I do for an income." [29:49](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip | Download vertical captioned clip)

4. "You know, the greatest commodity in the world is peace, but when His power brings peace, peace stays. When we try to create peace on our own, it's just fleeting. When He brings power, power and peace stay together. But you know what I've learned? You can't live like a pig and live in peace. You can't live with power and live like a pig. You got to prepare yourself for the Lord Jesus to do what only He can do." [15:19](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip | Download vertical captioned clip)

### Quotes for Members

1. "Jesus stands up, sure of foot, in that rocking boat, and says these words, 'Peace, be still.' And all of nature stops, and the disciples are like, 'Whoa.' They are amazed, the scripture says, and then Jesus looks at them with this word, He says, 'Why do you have such little faith?' That's me, like, every time a storm blows up in my life, you know what I like to say, 'Jesus, why are you asleep at the wheel?'" [05:26](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip | Download vertical captioned clip)

2. "When we get to the feet of Jesus, is when we find power. You don't find power when you stand up to Jesus, you find power when you get on your knees before Jesus. When we get to see that point, all of a sudden, we begin to understand what peace and power look like, hand in glove." [20:30](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip | Download vertical captioned clip)

3. "Jesus goes on, and listen to what happens, a crowd soon gathered around Jesus, and they saw the man who'd been possessed by the legion of demons, he was sitting there fully clothed, and perfectly sane, and they were all afraid. Then those who had seen what had happened, told the others about the demon-possessed man, and the pigs, and the crowd began pleading to go away, and leave them alone. I mean, they're so amazed, it's like, we don't know how to handle this." [12:14](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip | Download vertical captioned clip)

4. "If Jesus has power over nature, if Jesus has power over trauma, if Jesus has power over disease, and Jesus has power over death, then Jesus has got power over whatever you need Him to have power over, but you got to follow His feet. That's where we lose it." [26:02](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip | Download vertical captioned clip)

5. "Jesus isn't worried about a loss of power, He's got plenty of power. Jesus isn't worried about who He is, He knows who she is. He asked her to acknowledge Him. Y'all ever wonder why, at the end of service, I'll say, raise your hand, if you want to give your life to Jesus, stand up, you want to give your life to Jesus? It's not because I need to know who you are, I want you to know who He is. He says, if you'll acknowledge me before men, I'll acknowledge you before the Father."
