Good morning, everyone. Happy Mother's Day! Today, we gather to celebrate and honor mothers, but I recognize that this day brings a mix of emotions for many. Some of you are grieving the loss of your mothers, some are struggling with the desire to become a mother, and others are dealing with the pain of a recent divorce or the loss of a child. Yet, there are also those who are simply grateful for the wonderful mothers they have had. My own mother was a powerful, yet soft-spoken woman who held our family together. She was the one who attended all my ballgames and learned football just to support me. I miss her dearly and wish I could call her today.

Today, I want to talk about the relationship between power and peace through the lens of Jesus. In the world, power and peace often seem like opposites, but in Jesus, they come hand in glove. We see this in the stories of Jesus, where His power brings peace. For instance, in Mark chapter 4, Jesus calms a storm on the Sea of Galilee. The disciples are terrified, thinking they will drown, but Jesus, asleep in the boat, wakes up and commands the storm to be still. The disciples are amazed, and Jesus questions their faith. This story illustrates how Jesus' power can bring peace even in the midst of chaos.

Moving to Mark chapter 5, we see Jesus' power over psychological trauma. A man possessed by a legion of demons meets Jesus. This man is tormented, living among tombs, and unable to be restrained even with chains. When he sees Jesus, he bows down, recognizing Jesus' authority. Jesus commands the demons to leave the man and enter a herd of pigs, which then drown in the lake. The man is restored to sanity, and the people are amazed but also afraid. This story shows that Jesus' power can bring peace to even the most tormented souls.

Next, we see Jesus' power over disease. A woman who has been suffering from constant bleeding for 12 years touches Jesus' robe, believing that this will heal her. Jesus feels the power leave Him and asks who touched Him. The woman, trembling, admits it was her. Jesus tells her that her faith has healed her and to go in peace.
