Today, we gathered to celebrate the goodness, faithfulness, and ever-present love of God. We were reminded that no matter what storms we face in life—whether they be sickness, loss, fear, or uncertainty—God is with us, and His presence changes everything. Our worship was filled with praise, acknowledging that we were created to glorify God, to lift His name, and to find our purpose in worshiping Him. We declared that the King of Glory fills not just our physical space, but our hearts, our minds, and our lives.
Turning to Mark 4:35-41, we reflected on the story of Jesus calming the storm. Before the storm even began, Jesus gave a promise: “Let us go to the other side.” This promise was not just about a physical journey, but a spiritual assurance that, no matter what arises, God’s word will not fail. The disciples, like many of us, forgot the promise when the storm hit. Fear and anxiety took over, and they questioned whether Jesus cared. Yet, even as the winds raged, Jesus was present—calm, unshaken, and in control.
We learned that having Jesus in our lives does not mean we are exempt from trouble. Storms will come, but His presence guarantees peace in the midst of chaos. The disciples’ fear led them to doubt God’s love, but Jesus responded not with panic, but with authority—He spoke, and the storm obeyed. This is a powerful reminder that Jesus not only rides with us through the storm, but He rules over it. Whatever chaos we face, He has the power to speak peace into our situation.
We also considered how storms reveal the true state of our hearts. Faith is not proven in times of ease, but in the midst of adversity. Like Job, who declared, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him,” we are called to hold fast to God’s unchanging character, even when we don’t understand our circumstances. The storms of life are not just obstacles, but opportunities for growth, for deeper trust, and for God’s power to be revealed in us.
As we partook in communion, we remembered Christ’s ultimate sacrifice, the foundation of our hope and assurance. No matter what we face, we can declare with confidence: it is well. God is with us, His promises are sure, and everything will work together for our good.
Mark 4:35-41 (ESV) — 35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.”
36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him.
37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling.
38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”
39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”
41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
