Finding Peace: Faith Amidst Life's Storms

Summary

Summary:

In today's message, we explored the theme of "Sailing to Victory," drawing from the story in Luke 8 where Jesus calms the storm. This narrative serves as a powerful reminder of the victorious faith that Jesus calls us to have, even amidst life's storms. The disciples, despite their familiarity with the sea, found themselves overwhelmed by a sudden storm, causing their faith to falter. Jesus, however, remained calm and in control, demonstrating His authority over nature and challenging the disciples to awaken their faith.

We reflected on how storms in our lives can often catch us off guard, leading us to question our faith. Yet, these moments are opportunities for our faith to awaken and grow. Jesus, the Master of Peace, invites us to run to Him in our times of need, trusting that He can bring peace out of chaos. His presence in our lives assures us that we are not alone, and He is capable of calming the internal and external storms we face.

Furthermore, we considered the cosmic scope of Jesus' authority as the Commander of all creation. The disciples' realization of Jesus' power over the winds and waves expanded their understanding of His divine nature. This revelation challenges us to have a high view of Jesus, recognizing Him as the Lord of the universe who can bring peace and order to our lives.

As we navigate the storms of life, we are encouraged to keep our faith alive and active, trusting in Jesus' sovereignty and His ability to dominate every adversity. By aligning our lives with His will, we can experience the peace and victory that comes from having faith in the Master and Commander of our souls.

In the midst of life's unexpected storms, our faith is often tested and revealed. Just as the disciples faced a sudden storm on the sea, we too encounter challenges that can shake our confidence and cause us to question our beliefs. These moments, however, are not just trials but opportunities for growth. They push us to rely on Jesus, who has the power to calm the chaos around us. By turning to Him, we can find strength and assurance, knowing that He is with us in every storm. [13:44]

Isaiah 43:2 (ESV): "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you."

Day 3: Recognizing the Commander of All
The authority of Jesus extends over all creation, reminding us of His divine power and sovereignty. The disciples' awe at His command over the winds and waves challenges us to recognize His cosmic authority. Our faith should reflect this understanding, trusting in His ability to bring order to our lives. Quotes

We are caught off guard often by danger in our lives and storms. But Jesus, you are in the boat with us and you are the one that can calm any storm. So I pray as we look at this, I pray that you would be with us in this moment. We ask you that you would wake up this morning, Lord, that you would awaken our faith, if our faith is asleep in the boat, so to speak, Lord, that you would use circumstances and even your own identity, Lord, to cause faith to wake up. [00:03:01] (28 seconds)

These disciples were lacking faith in this critical moment where they obviously have faith they already believe in Jesus but in a moment of crisis all of a sudden their faith goes asleep Jalen Hurts has this great quote at the outset of the where they're asking about his faith I've always wanted to root myself in my faith in Jesus keep him in the center of my life and everything I do through the highs and the lows he's greater than all of them. [00:11:41] (27 seconds)

First, faith awakens in the storm. Now, many of these disciples who we looked at last summer were fishermen, right? They know the sea of Galilee. That's their main body of water where their trade happened. They are very comfortable in sailing on these boats. And normally you could predict weather, but there's also this, because this is so far below sea level and there are mountainous ranges, all of a sudden a cold front can sweep down the mountain and a storm can appear just like that. [00:12:36] (32 seconds)

There's a lot of mystery as it relates to storms in our lives, isn't there? I mean, one of the things that I think is fascinating about this text is it was Jesus's idea to cross the lake, right? Look again at verse 22. One day he, Jesus, got into a boat with his disciples and said, let us go across the other side of the lake. It appears he's tired after a long day of teaching, but they wouldn't be in this storm unless they were following Jesus. [00:14:18] (29 seconds)

When human beings kind of override things, when we are disobedient and when we're following Jesus, which is my caution under this first point. When a storm arises in your life, it's not always obvious the reason of the storm. And sometimes we want to know why the storm came. Now, if you're like Jonah and literally you're going the opposite way God told you and the storm came, I got a pretty good guess. [00:16:13] (27 seconds)

Faith is required if if we can get through the day in our own strength you don't need faith right faith is like a muscle that only grows when there is something put against it right where there's some stress put in and if every time some stressor comes into your life that's the moment your faith jumps ship it's not a very helpful faith is it jesus challenges them and he challenges us saying where is your faith. [00:17:17] (28 seconds)

Victorious faith awakens in the Master of Peace. Now, at first, they're freaking out, but I'm glad that they know whom to run to in their time of need, right? They know to go to the Lord Jesus Christ, and they know who he is. He is the Master. Now, they're clearly panicked because they say it not once but twice, Master, Master, you know, waking him up. [00:19:38] (23 seconds)

But whether or not it's actually a spiritual oppression or something demonic, or as we'll see in the third point, Jesus just has authority over all of creation, so he can cause the wind and the waves to obey him. Either way, we see that when Jesus shows up, he's able to bring peace out of chaos. And that's what he does for all of our lives, amen? When Jesus comes into our life, he brings peace out of chaos. [00:21:15] (29 seconds)

Faith awakens in the commander of all and I use the word all to encompass all of creation all of creation because even the winds and the waves obey Jesus it's not just the unclean spirits they hear his voice and fleeing get out he rebukes the winds and the waves they say cut it out and the water becomes like glass the voice and command of Jesus we have a master and commander we call Jesus Lord for a reason.
